I just threw that line in a website that does free translations. I copied it and pasted it to the site so that they could translate it to English. I'm not bothered by it at all. Who cares if I didn't win the Hugo Vera Mendez award..lol. My only opinion based on what I see is this: It's hard for this music scene to ever progress in this city because everybody percieves it as a competition. This column is simply an opinion of one sole person. Hugo Vera Mendez. There isn't a panel of judges...just him. There are names there that do deserve the recognition by far. But according to him, those listed are the ony ones that deserve it.
Did you guys ever see the Country Music Awards when they were announcing the winner for best female vocalist? They had a split screen showing all the nominees sitting in their chairs in agony waiting for the winner's name. I remember Faith Hill didn't win and when her name wasn't called, you could clearly see her all pissed yell out "WHAT?!?!" It was hilarious..lol

I think that list is rigged. And big time biased, considering that for a lot of the awards there was only one choice.

Wh'ever!......I wouldn't loose much sleep over this, LB. As you say, it's not an article to be taken super seriously, or mildly seriously.. or even seriously at all There's no one reviewing this, or voting for the nominees.. it's simply this guys opinion. Just like me or you making a list of anything I think he just gets to help his "friends"... I mean "MEJOR ORGANIZADOR DE FESTIVALES"? what kind of category is THAT?! (among others) Too bad he gets to publish it as some sort of worthy "ranking" under the header "Ranking de los Mejores Artistas y Espectáculos Latinos del 2006" Which implies these were voted by the public or that these artists have been nominated by their peers, or by at least more than ONE "judge"
Yet another "nomination" that means absolutely nothing for/to our community's artists, because the people that should be nominating these artists are not the ones that do. Bah!

I know that these "acknowledgments" are based on Mr. Hugo Vera's personal opinion....but isn't there something totally wrong when someone like RICKY FRANCO is not qualified in any category....whether as BEST SINGER, ARRANGER or MUSICIAN......and I'm not trying to be biased here.....since I know even 99% of the nominees will agree with me....and if you don't agree with this....please tell me why......
This is also not an article to take super seriously BUT regardless......many people read EL POPULAR on a daily basis......and this "list" does not mention MANY important industry people.....
EX: Carlos Cruz, Keiter Feliz, G.Briz (Tumbao) or even Cafe Cubano as best Tropical Group....and on and on and on.......
