I did the same thing BUt after I had make sure the other job was mine; I told the manager of the other place that I was going to notify my boss and two wait for me two weeks.  Luckily my supervisor understood and even organized a lunch with other co-workers.  The weird thing for me was going to an "exit interview" in which the H.R manager asked me a series of questions and I signed a document about not reveiling company methods.  Everything was cool.

Como dicen en espanol: No sueltes la cuerda mientras no tengas la mano en la otra

Whatever happened to El PIbe is B.S, he should ask a lawyer about it, I believe an appointment costs around $200.

@ Genie, thank you for the vote of confidence.  I hope that you have been able to keep up with it though.  How's the new place???

@ Marky Mark, I don't think you have driven past it at all.  You might be thinking of Bodies By Design, which is my competitor.  I am at a small studio (which we are expanding over the holidays) called High Octane Fitness.  We specialize in personal training, sports specific training, and weight loss programs.  We have had tremendous success with out Fat Blast program, and are looking to move forward with our expansion.  Our rates vary, the $60 a month that MJ was refering to is correct, however, its for group training, it is circuit style weight training program that runs 2 times a week, which works out to $7.50 a session.  For one - on - one sessions the rates vary from $56/session for 8 session, down to $42/session for 56 sessions(**Prices may change in the new year**).  If you drive in that area, we are actually on the street where the Shell gas station is (and where the new Esso is coming) Coming from Hwy 7 head North on Vaughan Valley Blvd and Turn Left on Zenway, we are at 111 Zenway, HIGH OCTANE FITNESS.  Or if you are heading North on Hwy 27 Turn left on Zenway (Where the new Tim Hortons is) and drive past Vaughan Valley Blvd, it will be on your left hand side.

Also for those who have children, and may be in the area, we are also starting some childrens fitness programs, kickboxing, boxing, and soccer.  Ages will range from 8 - 16, and remember $500 will be tax deductable now.  I will get some more info on that and post it, so keep that in mind.

HOLY INFO!!!! NOT INTEREST!!UNLESS ITS SOMETHING FROM 4 YRS OLD!!!

What a coincidence!!!! I know NOTHING of what you people are talking about: Pibe, his job, Brampton, his fitness studio, SHELL or anything else that's been mentioned on this thread.

What a small world!!!

Speaking of coincidence, I was thinking the exact same thing (with regards to wasting another 10 minutes of my life that I'll never get back) with your "I want latin Christmas movies that don't contain one word of Spanish and that are exactly like Ugly Betty" thread!!!

WELCOME TO CORPORATE AMERICA. OFFICE POLITICS!!! JEEZ, SORRY TO HEAR THAT. UNFORTUNATELY, WE CAN DO THAT AND GET AWAY WITH IT. HIS BOSS JUST FOLLOW THE TYPICAL ROUTINE WE TAKE AS UPPER MANAGEMENT. TECHNICALLY THAT'S DISMISSAL WITHOUT CAUSE, BUT WHO IS TO SAY PIBE IS NOT GOING TO STEAL MATERIAL OR PRIVATE INFORMATION TO HELP THE COMPETITION. THAT'S THE REASON WHY HE WAS TERMINATED ON THE SPOT. ON TOP OF THAT, HE DIDN'T WANT SOMEONE DOING A BAD JOB CAUSE HE WON'T CARE NO MORE. AS A MANAGER I WOULD PROCEED THE SAME WAY. TRUST ME, MANAGERS DO THAT EVERY DAY AND WE VIRTUALLY CAN'T GET IN TROUBLE EVEN IF YOU TAKE IT TO HUMAN RESOURCES CANADA. HE SHOULD APPLY TO E.I. BUT THE COMPANY WILL PRODUCE THE RESIGNATION LETTER. HE WON'T GET IT. ON THE OTHER HAND HE IS ENTITLE TO A 1 WEEK PAY OR IN SOME CASES TWO WEEKS.

@JC:  Wouldn't that be considered an unlawful dismissal?  I could understand if he was still on probation but he wasn't.

El Pibe gave them documents stating that his last day will be on the 29th and then he just boots him!

He then had THE NERVE to say, "You can either work until 5 or you can leave now!"

The HR dept sounds like a good start.

  EUREKA!!!  I got it!!!!

Do you think they took El Pibe's documents so that El Pibe wouldn't be able to claim unemployment?  TECHNICALLY, he can because he was fired but the company can totally turn around and say, "Nope, he quit.  Here's the paperwork."

-- Edited by Motown Junkie at 09:51, 2006-12-21

If they did I don't think it would affect him too much.
Doesn't he already have a better paying job waiting for him?
Plus it would take like 5 or 6 weeks to get an unemployment cheque. By that time I am sure he would already be working at his new job.....unless he filled up his unemployment papers under an Alias name like El Pibe

-- Edited by Jaime Cruz at 09:55, 2006-12-21

Yeah, he decided to go back to being a full time personal trainer which he has already started doing.  Well, no......not yet.  In the new year.......in the meantime, he's doing this now

Jerk!

I wish I was back home doing the same thing

I hear Marky Mark want's to speak to him about getting back into bikini...err I mean beach shape.

Oh really???

Well El Pibe's gym is just a block east of HWY 427 and HWY 7.  So maybe he can stop there on the way home to B-Town!!!

I have no idea if what he did illigal because I know employers can get away with alot of Bull****
The same thing happened here two years ago with an employee. She gave her notice two weeks in advance and was fired two days later.
I guess El Pibe isn't at a complete loss because he's got another job waiting in the wings, but what his employer did sounds very arseholeish.

Wow chicky.... that's pretty unfortunate.  I'm truly sorry to hear that.  Um... does the company have an HR department?  If so, that's where he needs to go first.  Secondly is there another higher up that he can approach.  Why hasn't anyone else complained?  Especially the women he is banning from the Christmas party.  There are a LOT of issues here that go beyond just El Pibe getting fired.  Dude is completely acting unethical and illegally.  Depending on how much El Pibe cares, he should definitely find a way of pursuing justice, if not for himself but for the other ppl in the office.

I have a question and something tells me it's rather unlawful.

The other day, El Pibe notified his boss that he found a better offer and would be putting in his two weeks notice.

His boss told him to write the letter and give it to him the next day.

A couple of hours later, his boss called him in, asked for his letter, and said, "You're outta here!  From this point on, all ties will be cut and you'll be paid until the end of the week."

My question is, is he allowed to do that??

He had no grounds to fire him except for the fact that he's a big baby!

Please keep in mind that his boss banned all women from attending company parties because one woman some time ago complained about something.  Big dumb baby!!!!
