Fortunately I am off the weed now, and luckily there haven't been any acid busts lately, so it's all good.

You are throwing random numbers out there, how about some actual numbers?   Not to mention that you are not comparing apples to apples.  Armed thugs to unarmed employees at LCBO?

What bothers me about this story is the inconsideration and lack of regard by those involved (especially the superintendant).   Having that many grow ops. in a building is ridiculous.  Doesn't anyone think or care about the kids in the building?  What about the rest of the tenants who feel intimidated?

Yes Quixote, I will throw numbers, I will do anything to confound those who may feel threatened by

"roughly (i.e. LESS than) six per cent of the approximately 8,000 marijuana grow operations investigated annually by police involve firearms, while 2.4 per cent of them involve other types of hazards or booby traps".

Those numbers.. man, shouldn't we ALL feel threatened.

And, what's the risk? They are yet to find the first case of marihuana lung poisoning. Or mould lung poisoning. Or fungus. Not one case, and people are already wanting to raze down the whole building.

So, pot growers are now known as "thugs"?

out of control?

bushes are out of control.

golf grass is out of control.

it's a SHAME that marihuana is not, really, out of control. At that level of human development (you know... the Renaissance Revolution, the Digital and Space Revolution and, yes, the Marihuana Normalization Revolution) we will all be like angels.

Well, i believe it was legal before and the gov. owned it, then people began to grow it, not needing to buy from the gov. anymore...gov. lost money, thought better to make it illegal....now it's out of control.

Police say marijuana grow operations becoming increasingly dangerous

TOBI COHEN - CP
November 27, 2006

A marijuana grow operation spread throughout at least 16 units of a Toronto apartment building is just the latest example of a booming illegal trade that's become increasingly dangerous for police and the public, experts said Friday.

Not only do these operations pose a serious fire and health risk to neighbours unknowingly forced to breathe in potentially harmful mould spores, some are heavily guarded by booby traps and armed thugs, say provincial and national police officials.

Roughly six per cent of the approximately 8,000 marijuana grow operations investigated annually by police involve firearms, while 2.4 per cent of them involve other types of hazards or booby traps, said Derek Ogden, RCMP chief superintendent and head of the drug and organized crime unit.

///////////////

This is plain stupid. To begin with, it's not like a weed grower can just open shop anywhere in the city where it is legal to open any other kind of shop, LCBO included.

"Dangerous". O please. First, this dimwit says that grow-ups are dangerous for the fire and health risk they represent. But he forgets to give us any actual examples of such risks becoming a reality. Still, he's cranked himself enough as to say that grow-ups are "becoming increasingly dangerous".

Then he drops the fire and health issues ENTIRELY to turn his attention to "some" of said grow-ups that are guarded by "armed thugs" and booby traps (Hell my own place has got a couple of them booby traps. And I don't happen to grow any kind of plants) to then inform us that SIX F@CKING PERCENT of INVESTIGATED grow ups involved firearms and TWO POINT FOUR F@CKING PERCENT of said grow ups involved some kind of booby trap.

Say... one would suspect that at least 8 percent of LCBO stores in Ontario has been stage for shootings and killings. Also, that 10 percent of Ontario homes probably have SOME KIND of booby trap. What, no article?

I gather you know more than one of them "low lifes drug dealers".

.

Kids? What, will the marihuana plants EAT kids up?

.

One would guess that problems are now over for the community in that building... right?

.

Sadly... not.

.

But worry not.

Sooner than later, the cops will find another grow-up. And another.
