1. i laughed when i read she threw the spoon, but stopped soon after i continued reading, only to realize that things got worse, and it wasn't funny any more.

That's what i was thinking. But the impact was probably so hard that it caused a cut. Trust me girl, my brother was playing basketball one day & he got elbowed so hard on his forehead, which caused a cut. I remember him calling me to drive him to the hospital cause he thought he might need stiches. I just laughed so hard over the phone & told him he was overreacting! But needles to say, he was right! It was gross, he needed quit a few stiches to heal that cut up!

WOW!! That's crazy! First of all, they both should have never resorted to violence. As funny as it may sound, she should have never thrown a spoon at him. But he should have also just walked away when she did that. By throwing the spoon at eachother, they BOTH did have the intention of hurting eachother.
Now it's unfortunate that he's going through all this. It's going to be hard to convince the Judge on what really happened. Domestic Violence on a woman is taken seriously in a court of law. In general... because of this sometimes woman take advantage and when upset they will physically hurt themselves and then blame it on their man. Or sometimes they may just add more to the story. Who knows maybe this was the case. I've seen it happen Woman can be very evil/vindictive sometimes.
Because of their childish act, he is now going to have a record on him and altough he can try and get a pardon years down the road, this will haunt him for a good while!
Anyhoo, what kind of relationhip is that when you both have the intention of hurting eachother, whether it's verbally or phsycal violence.

I've heard that line so many times, but I'm glad to know that is not true... I've know several cases of men using self defense, in some cases men breaking women arms after a violent attack with a weapon and yet, the case still ruled in favor of the man.
My suggestion...
if dialog doesn't work, take a cold shower and resume negotiations... if you see that violence is the only way out, just walk away (as you previously said)
