There is a trilogy of books by a Canadian author named Robert L. Sawyer. The trilogy is the story about the discovery of a portal to a parallel universe (in the Neutrino observatory in Sudbury), where the surviving species were the Neanderthals, and not the Homo Sapiens Sapiens (no Danny, i didn't call you a Homo).
Anyway, during the development of the story, several facts about how the Neanderthals structured their civilized society are revealed. One of these, is the fact that they engaged in this method of Eugenics as a tool to prevent their species not to become "racially impure" like the case Lahtina talks about, but to eliminate the genes that induced violence and crime. Thus, every criminal in the Neanderthal society was castrated, and so were all the Neanderthals that shared half of the genetic code with him/her (i.e. parents, siblings, children).
Damn I read this too quickly, I thought you were talking about people from the Netherlands. And I thought, hmmm, so there's no crime in the Netherlands.
OOOOh, you frigging Luis Camilo, you!!! You think you're knocking me out tomorrow? Be prepared to taste my wrath!
You're cooking wrath?

oh, if you want to know more about these books, go **** yourself.
I'm taking a genetics course which is so beyond interesting. Just wanna share this with the crickets of the foro.
This is about Eugenics. For those of you who don't know, it's the attempt to improve the human species by selective breeding. These ideas were very popular during the early twentieth century in the US, England and Germany (of course). By 1927, many states in the US had enacted laws that prohibited marriage of "social misfits" and made sterilization compulsory for the "genetically unfit" and for those found guilty of certain crimes. In Germany, when the Nazi party came to power, the sterilization law went into effect. Under such law, those regarded as not having lives worth living (the mentally challenged, epileptics, the deformed, those having hereditary forms of blindness or deafness, even alcoholics) were to be sterilized.
By 1933, the law was amended to include "mercy killing" of newborns who were incurably ill with hereditary disorders or birth defects. The program gradually expanded to include children up to 3 or 4 years of age, then adolescents and finally all institutionalized children, including juvenile delinquents and Jewish children. Institutions in Germany, Austria and Poland carried out the program. Children were usually killed by poison or starvation.
In 1939 the program extended to include "defective" adults. As increasing numbers were marked for death, gas chambers were installed at several institutions to kill people more efficently. The program was then extended to include whole groups of people in concentration camps most of whom were Jews, Gypsies, Communists, homosexuals or political opponents of the government.
