Maybe the ban was imposed because of pressure from outside sources? Maybe it's a politcal move to get voter confidence? Maybe it's a question of support $$$.
I don't know how their government works. But the bottom line is always about money.
ATTENTION "JULIE", THIS MESSAGE IS FROM "DOGO" !! Unfortunately, Admin is still being an a$$ and he can't post, but he can still read!
DOGO's response:
Julie, I’m not arguing whether they are normal or ABnormal. That’s a whole different thread and we would likely agree on that But I’m arguing the fact that it’s not the government’s place to dictate what is the “ideal look” in society (Hitler ring a bell?) and I also doubt very much that runway models set societies “look” really Since when is it the government’s job to tell us HOW or WHAT we should look like? I think society’s “look” shapes itself, based more on our lifestyle. Not by how thin or thick a woman looks, or what they are wearing on some fifi runway in Madrid
You can’t regulate stupidity, and you can’t blame everything on the media. If some women think this is how they should look, then they probably deserve to And how many women is it really influencing? I doubt many women think it’s the standard. Far more “regular” women are waaay more popular than runway models (check FHM, Playboy, Maxim, sports illustrated, etc) actresses, for example. Or look at Vida Guerra, probably one of the most popular “models” in the last couple of years. She is FAR from ultra skinny Woman are smarter than to think that ultra skinny is the “norm”, no? I don’t see many ultra skinny women around. I think this whole thing is exclusive to the modeling/fashion bizz and probably a few weirdos that have always been around, but certainly not something that the government should be sticking its nose into
I’m sure there are faaaaar more people that think homosexuality, for example, is abnormal, should the government ban flamboyant homosexuals from the public eye too? Should we ban “pretty” people too, now that plastic surgery is so accesible? Or how about Mimi, do you think HE is normal? Should we ban him and send him off to a deserted island, just because of his abnormality? No! (ok, maybe)
(I’m not mad, just a discussion. Please don’t not ban me again)
What's next!? ban "big girls" from clubs and "big people" clothing catalogues, because that's ALSO unhealthy?!!! Extremes are bad, we already KNOW that!! No need to go banning it too!!
Bah!
This is strictly my opinion, no banning please. Thank you-- Edited by Dogo at 21:00, 2006-09-19
Ok, got your point and it's valid but as Mimi said, the skinny one are the one that set the rules in terms of fashion. o you think this is normal ? That this is the model young girls should follow or at least try too ?
Those are far from being the worst pics and you probably think that there is nothing wrong with it. Well I have a friend that became anorexic and let me tell you, it's ugly to watch and to touch.
She had a nice body before, athletic, was never over weight nor llenita and now, she doesn't llok like anything.
I wouldn't kick them out from my bed for making crums......Now the catwalk is gonna look more like a farmers Market with a bunch of cows.

Industries and lifestyles and lives are based on what these models look like.
Models live that fantasy lifestyle that people want to immitate. Sadly, they set the standard for what is in-style.
I hope that makes sense.
BTW, good to see you changed your mind about leaving foro.
MiMi, just because you're a model too doesn't mean you have to keep defending your fellows anos and bullies*. You models make me sick! Sick, I tells ya!

A friend once theorized that the wafer model was popular because it likened the model to a prepubuscent girl. I couldn't agree or disagree because you never know with some of these freaky fashionistas.

we can always model for baby Gap.... :giggles:
I agree with the new laws in Spain...I think the being ultra skinny trend is coming to an end... I think that more men nowadays are looking for real down-to-earth women and we understand that 26yrs and over women can't weight 40kg....

I saw this topic a couple of days ago in a news report... sooo glad Spain is doing something for those poor models.... some of them look like they haven't eat for a week (or more).... That news report showed a model who weighted herself and was 2 pounds more than the minimun was.. and she went NUTS...
