I was at work – all of a sudden, emails were being forwarded with the news and links to websites of CNN and NBC… the first plane had hit the towers!
Seconds later you could find everyone in front of a TV in one of the offices looking at what had just happened… soon enough we saw the second plane hit… eventually we saw the towers go down like lego blocks falling to the ground.
I have tons of family in NYC and I got on the phone to make sure my relatives were all ok – all BUT ONE (one who owns a restaurant and went to work that day only 2 blocks away from the WTC) had been located up to that point. His family were trying to get a hold of him frantically for what seemed like eternity – phones were busy or down for the most part… several hours went by and thoughts of “the worst” had come to the heads of his wife and children… it was not until mid-late afternoon that he was FINALLY able to get a line out and called home to report that he was ok. We all finally could breath in peace knowing that all our loved ones / IMMEDIATE family were ok.
However, there was someone that was known to our family and good friend of some family members who worked in one of the restaurants at the WTC and never made it out. His story was published in an Ecuadorean magazine (www.vistazo.com). He left behind a wife and a couple of kids.

I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK TAKING THE TTC WHEN I HEARD A MAN SAY OMG A PLANE HIT THE TOWER I THOUGHT OF FAWK THE CN TOWER WERE SCREWED! THEN HE SAID NO IN NEW YORK! SO I GOT OFF THE BUS LITERALLY RAN TO WORK AND SAW ALL MY CO-WORKERS STANDING AROUND A TV IN THE BOSSES OFFICE THATS WHEN I SAW THE SECOND PLANE HIT OH IT WAS SAD! A FEW DAYS LATER WE FOUND OUT THAT MY CUZIN WAS ON THE 16TH FLOOR OF THE FIRST TOWER AND THANK THE LORD HE MADE IT OUT SAFE AND SOUND!
THEN WE ALSO FOUND OUT THREE OF OUR CLIENTS DIED IN THE SECOND PLANE!!!
IT WAS SAD AND TRULY A SENSE OF SECURITY WAS LOST AND WILL BE LOST FOREVER!!
BUT TO CELEBRATE IT EVERY YEAR IS LIKE OK WE GET IT!! AND WE LIVE IT EVERYTIME WE TRY TO BOARD A PLANE! SO WE DONT NEED A DAY TO REMEMBER!
I was on the 407 on my way to Seneca listening to Mad Dog and Billie. One moment I was laughing at something stupid and silly and then the next moment, they switched up the tempo and announced what had happened. I bypassed school that day and went to my parents house and watched the whole thing unfold.
LB, I agree with you, worst things have happened but as Buffy said, it was at that point that North America realized we weren't as safe or untouchable as we thought we were. I remember calling my mom and brother (who work downtown) begging them to get out of the city. No one knew what was going to happen next but it was just that fear of the unknown and loss of security.
At was at school,.but as some of u have said,. there has been other tragic events in history,. and there are other events currently happening,. and there will be happening,. I think the big deal is that know one thought that something like that would happen,. for example wars are something that we are used to see,..something like that was new for the world,.
I had the day off and was just watching tv and having breakfast when I saw the report on CNN. Seeing one plane crash and fall after another seemed unreal. To this day I remember how empty I felt that day and how sad I felt for the people who died and the families that were left behind.
i was at home just about to head to university when i turned on the news and saw.. i also watched the second plane hit live.. very surreal, like straight out of a movie only it was actually happenning.
I was at home 'cause I worked in the afternoon. Hubby called me and told me about it and I watched it unfold on CNN. Quite shocking, and because of the extensive coverage, it was odd being able to watch it happen on TV. I saw the second plane hit the tower as it was happening.
Like LB said, there have been bigger and worse tragedies happening all over the world. It was just so significant because of where it happened. And it showed their vulnerability as well. I see it as a significant, though sad, moment in history.
I was working doing construction in Markham and someone told me. At the time I had no clue about the building nor where they were standing. Noticed till I got home and saw it on tv
I want as all to remember the victims of 9/11. My best regards to all those families including my friends in New York.
Five years ago I was in school in Toronto doing my Post grad. It was terrible finding out about the terrorist attack. My birthday is September 15th. I remember that 5 years ago I did not celebrated my birthday, I was too sad for all those families that lost their love ones.
Lets send all of our prayers to the survivors today.

I was on my way to work.....and found it odd that the entire street was empty....
There have been WORSE tragedies in the world than the 911 situation......
I don't see it as such a big deal, as everyone makes it out to be.....
