X@vier
B.U.T.T. (just cuz the discussion is intelligent and worth the read)
@ X: I love his whole album, but im not really feeling "Lost Mate" too much. I love the lyrics and his flow is always on point... but its just the track in the back that bothers me.

I think that if you're offended by this you definitely being overly sensitive, missing the point and probably taking 'political correctness' to a whole new level

I think some of you might be letting yourselves be carried away by your Tego's fanaticism or even your latin pride I don't find these comments offensive at all..... I think it's pretty light hearted humor, actually
None of you have EVER found it funny how, or for not understanding what a, for example, Indian person or a Jamaican person (or Julie and Lahtina ) speak? without necessarily making fun of Indian or Jamaican cultures? Hell! I'm even made fun of because of the way I SPEAK! and I speak spanish!!!

Not the type of response I thought some of you would've posted. I for one think this is the most ignorant piece of **** ever published by a weekly magazine in a "multicultural" city. I would even go as far as saying that as a Latino (not only a Tego fan) I feel offended on a racial level. I mean, how dare he ask or suggest an artist "gringofy" his creation so that non-latinos can sing-along to it!!!! And WTF is up with the child-molesting remark?!?!?
Clearly, this mother f_cker doesn't understand our language nor does he understand the general theme of the album...some one should translate "Chango Blanco" for him....better yet, the music editors at Eye Weekly should've gotten a Latino or atleast some one that understands Spanish to review such delicate material.
well ... hellooooooooo but i thought that was crystal clear
everything can be summarized by saying gringos have no buzz in our community, i think we should give them a taste of their own medicine but i also think we r up too high in class scale to trash gringo's don't u think?
that guy should be fired for writting such a low and bad review....

wow!!! i cant believe i didnt read this yet lol!!!!
well..first off..... this retard mainstream pushing caker..is just another fool who joins the rest of the morons who dont know **** about the genre...
tego said it himself...he didnt need to do any hard english colabos with other artists on this album....to boost fame...and thats what i luv about him, he keeps it raw and original ..and puts in all his 100% feelings into his music...the track especially where hes rapping about his RIP dad...off the hook!!!! beat and lyrics...
obviously this moron expected tegos album to be some next gasolina s*** to crossover to the american media again hahahahahahahh!!!!!!!!! dream on budy!!
this album is gonna get credit from the real listeners... and true fans...
i can care less if reggaeton losses american mainstream effect .....as long as the genre keeps pushing good music....ill be a fan hasta el fin

I read it twice.....and now I get what you're saying....(the first time I thought it was a joke) LOL......the remarks came across as ignorant for sure.....but this guy obviously doesn't know any better, hasn't done his homework and is writing from a non-Latino point of view.....so that's all you can really expect.....the "racist, stereo-typical, ignorant" approach.....whether or not done intentionally....that's how it comes across on print.....
From an advertising point of view.....I feel that a non-Latino or even a Latino let's say, will not really find the CD review as appealing, hence not buying the album......simply because it wasn't "mainstream, pop-ish" enough.....Media advertising has a big influence on CD purchasers.....
It's encouraging non-Latinos NOT to buy the album because they won't understand and be able to sing along to it.....
And I agree with LU.....what's up with the child molesting comment??? I get the indirect point.....but the comment was uncalled for and he could have used a different choice of words and examples....
@ Latin Urban.....If I were you, I would immediately contact this Media and view my points & dissapointment, and offer your services to them for the future on anything LATIN related.....as it only makes sense that someone with some knowledge of the language, music culture and education writes such articles.....
If these guys had heard of Latin Urban Dot CA......and knew they could count on your services....I guarantee you, such articles would not be published!

well its obvious this person doesn't know anything....all i have to say is y doesn't he say the same about Gasolina?
and i stick to Los Mate next Gasolina.....all the dringos will not need it to be "gringofy" for them to dance to it and enjoy it.

This was just brought to my attention. Take a minute or two to read it (I know some of y'all are slow readers) and post your feelings about the review.
TEGO CALDERIN
The Underdog/El Subestimado Jiggiri/Atlantic/Warner
Puerto Rico-bred MC Tego Calderón is already a star in many Latin countries. But will reggaeton's first major-label international signing be able to make that Menudo money here in North America? It's hard to say. The language barrier certainly won't help him cross over to monolingual Yankee crowds. Seriously, Tego, if you won't slap subtitles on the ****, couldn't you at least throw in some familiar words: hombre, gordita, Banderas, even? Still, listeners will find much to like in Calderón's eclectic blend of Caribbean and American influences, which include reggae, salsa, hip-hop and blues. El Subestimado bounces with cool samples (the Jimmy Cliff-hanger "Chillin'"), colourful live instrumentation (Calderón layers "Llora, Llora" with jumpy salsa trombones, pianos and bongos), rolling rhythms (particularly on the propulsive "Los Maté") and catchy melodies ("Chango Blanco"). All you can do is sing along and pray he isn't rhyming about molesting children or something. JAMES SIMONS
