No no, it's done like a big wedding reception with only "la creme de la creme" of the high society. The girl have a "chaperon" sort of, gown dresses and tux, etc...

What a coincidence! We were discussing hubby's BDay today and his falls on a Saturday also!!! Coincidence??? I think NOT!
For us, it's just the b-day, no saint, and instead of 15 y/o, it's the 21st b-day that count, somehow more than 18th because the legal majority used to be @ 21 y/o and this is also when the girls get "introduced in society" but this tradition in mostly for the upper, very upper class.
Ohhh and I forgot the "catherinettes" is for all women in there 25th years. It is celebrated every 25th of Novoember. You are a Catherinettes if you are not married by that time so you will have to wear a hat (very nice and funky one) all day so pple will know. It is a tradition made after Ste Catherine D'Alexandrie.

My fam celebrates my bday EVERY YEAR! Cakes, presents, turkey dinner, jingle bells and snow... altho, my birthday cake always says Merry Christmas for some reason.
As for Latinos, we celebrate the 15th birthday. Not sure if all latinos celebrate el dia de su santo, but i know that Ecuadorians do. For example, mi papa y mi tio celebran el dia de San Jorge because that is their name. Besides that, we still party for everything.
I TRY TO CELEBRATE EVERY ONE OF MY B-DAYS.... ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO CELEBRATE IT THE WAY I WANT TO CONSIDERING THAT I SHARE MY B-DAY WITH A RELATIVE.... IN MY FAM WE ONLY MADE A BIG FUSS FOR MY QUINCE.... OTHER THAN THAT WE USUALLY HAVE A SMALL DINNER AND A CAKE....

My mom celebrates my birthday every year, she always invites her friends and my friends, every year people can you imagine? I love it to be honest with you. I am 26 years old and I still get a lot of gifts for my birthday. instead of toys I get really cool and expensive gifts.

Don't feel bad there champ I'm in the same boat. I don't even remember last time I had a bday done for me with the family. I'd usually just do it with cousins and friends
I was discussing this with my parents last night over some delicious enchiladas de pollo.
Latinos celebrate anything and everything, but what importance do we give certain dates and events?
For example: we celebrate los 15 para las niñas, 18 years old for both boys n girls, and until recent i found out we also celebrate 21st bdays. why do we give so much importance to these dates?? are they really milestoones, and how do we come to the conclusion that they are important?? why not celebrate a 13th bday or a 27 bday??
I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY BUT IN EL SALVADOR I THINK ITS ONLY LOS QUINCE THAT WE ALL MAKE A BIG FUSS ABOUT EVEN FOR BOYS IN CENTRAL AMERICA ITS CALLED LA FIESTA CLAVEL!
AS FOR 18 THATS MAINLY FILIPINOS (ATLEAST THAT I KNOW OF)
21ST IS MORE FOR THE AMERICAN LATINOS CUZ ITS THE LEGAL AGE IN USA
AND 13 IS FOR JEWISH KIDS ITS THERE BAR OR BAT MITZVAH
AND FOR MANY YOUR QUINCE UR ENTERING UR YOUNGE ADULT HOOD LIFE, 18 FOR FLIPS IS FROM WHAT THE GIRLS IN SCHOOL TOLD ME WAS THAT YOUR EMBRACING YOUR ADULT HOOD YOU ARE NOW OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE DECISIONS IN YOUR LIFE
21 CUZ YOU ARE NOW LEGAL TO DRINK AND PARTY LOL I GUESS
AND 13 ITS ENTERING YOUR TEEN YEARS AND HALF WAY TO YOUR ADULT LIFE!
since 12?? my fams havent celebrated my bday for a long time.. not that they dont want to, its just that im always out with peoples on my bday... ke mal hijo soy.
