Hey everyone. Just so you know

Thursday August 24 2006 LULA SHOWCASE NIGHT Doors @ 7:00pm, Show @ 8:00pm, Admission $10 , Dinner reservations guarantee seating.   Featuring Evaristo Machado, Rojitas, Ricky Morales, Dirty Maria and The Alchemistas.

Lula Showcase Night

Evaristo Machado Cuban-Canadian singer Evaristo Machado is best known for leading one of the best salsa big bands in the city. With this show he returns to his roots as a songwriter and guitar player, mixing latin jazz, flamenco, Bossa nova, jazz funk and Buban Trova to create a brand new sound. Evaristo will be showcasing material stretching from his early days as a Trovador in Havana to his most recent work.

 Rojitas

First rising to prominence in the field of Trova music - Rojitas was invited to be singer for the legendary son/salsa bandleader Adalberto Alvarez. Singing such famous hits as 'Y Que tu Quieres Que te Den', touring both in Cuba and around the world, Rojitas has shared the international stage with legendary salsa figures such as Reubén Blades, Willie Colon, Andy Montañez, Ray Barretto, and El Gran Combo. Rojitas' solo career has been marked with a variety of successful collaborations, solo projects and an ambition to perform a wide variety of both Cuban and international music genres. Well known to the Cuban public as a television host, Rojitas has released five solo albums, recorded with Jesus Alemañy's Cubanisimo!, and collaborated in a variety of theatre and stage productions that have toured all over the world.

Ricky Morales

 Dirty Maria

The four members of Dirty Maria, like Toronto itself, represent a hybrid of cultures - Panama, Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico. With each member having a distinct musical background, Dirty Maria finds its strength in its original sound. All members agree that despite their different backgrounds, their goal is to present Latin rock with a high-energy sound and lyrics in both Spanish and English.

The Alchemistas

The Alchemistas deliver Toronto's funky Brazilian jazz fusion. Inspired by the funk and progressive jazz bands of the 60's/70's as well as Brazilian music from the same era, The Alchemistas bring together a powerful combination of African and Brazilian rhythms, innovative melodies and harmonies, and elements of psychedelic jazz fusion. The band consists of Jay Danley on guitar Colin Campbell on bass Bernardo Padron on flute and saxophone, Guiomar Campbell on percussion and vocals and Carlos Andermarchi on drums.
