Actually, you can get your Smart Serve when you're 18, believe it or not! You're free to sell and serve liquor wherever you choose, including the LCBO and The Beer Store.
Now that you mention this...
Did you know you can also have a Adult entertainer license (or whatever that license is called) at 18? I had a "friend" that could'nt drink at her "place of work", but she could dance naked... bizarre

You need a license to bartend here...and a Smart Serve certificate to serve....and know all the things you mentioned.....
It's like any other course....Hairdressing, Make-up, Driving....etc
Actually, you only need a Smart Serve, not a bartending license. A bartending certificate, that you get from a school, maybe helpful in your search for a job. They do teach you proper "bar etiquette" and some cool tricks, but it is not required. All you need is your Smart Serve, and technically you don't even need it for the first 3 months. An employer is allowed to hire a bartender, without a Smart Serve, on a probationary period, just like any other job. The bartender could then apply for it through the employer, which is much easier.
