I think it’s one of those "department store" type BS

Granted, that if you getting it from Leon’s you likely wont be getting premium leather (nothing wrong with that.. it’s still ok value for your money)

But if you have (or will have) pets or kids poking at it, you can spray the whole darn thing with titanium and it still won’t help regardless of the leather quality (unless you go with super premium stuff)

Leather will dry and crack, yes, but you’ll likely want to replace, or recover, your sofas before that happens (the sofa itself will be “tired” and you, your pets, guests or your kids will likely have ripped it before you start thinking that the leather is about to crack) and who wants a sofa for more than 10, 15 years, anyway?

Cracks will have little to do with the fact that it’s been sprayed or not
It mostly happens because of the same spot being used all the time (the same crease fold happening over and over) the leather will fatigue and crack.
Keeping it “moist” will help and MAYBE delay that crack from happening, but not that much, at that point

If you have $250 to waste, do it… but my opinion is that the spray will be useless in a few months from now (the spray also dries) I think it’s a waste and a scam

If you want to use anything at all, use the cream every few months, that should be enough

BTW, I never even heard of such "magical spray".... and i make furniture for a living

Remind me again what it is that you do for a living, Mr. Salesman?

@JC - as everyone knows its how you take care of things if your gonna be animal thinking it's something its not it's not gonna last.  And what McO said $250 is a lil too much for an optional warranty.  I say f@ck the 'optional warranty' and get your own moisturizing kit.

Ok foro I need some input from you guys.
We are upgrading our leather couches and getting new ones.
We have shopped around and found the overall best price at Leons.
The only thing I noticed is that everywhere we go they have an optional fee of $260 or more to have the couches sprayed to supposedly prevent the leather from drying or tearing.
Do you guys think it's worth it to do so? Will it actually dry up and crumble like a cookie if we don't?

My philosophy with our leather furniture is, "If the cows didn't need the spraying, why should our furniture?"

Seems to work for us.

Plus I'm cheap.

Plus we never sit in them. I figured, the film of dust they'll collect over the years will be enough to protect them.

De nada.

Keeping it “moist” will help and MAYBE delay that crack from happening, but not that much, at that point I recommend JC to buy one with coussin of similar shape so you can rotate them, this way you won't be using the same spot all the time. That's what we did. I don't know if my parents did it on purpose though

Don't take it ! We had leather couch for the longest time and if the leather quality is good and YOU give the right maintenance to it, that should never happen.

Buy a good nutral cream for leather couch and use it, I think, once or twice a month with a clean piece of cotton fabric, no franela though. And here you go !

the only advice I can give you is DO NOT GET A PUPPY!

we bought jack russell puppy many many many years ago and he tore up our leather couches.  Very painful to see something so expensive RUINED.  *sigh*

Anywhooo... I say get the spray but see if you can shop around for a spray or find another alternative that doesn't cost so much ie: McLeatherCream's suggestion.

We already have leather sofas and there was no mention of them being sprayed, but then again I didn't buy them myself they were my parents.

Any advise would help since we are buying the couches tonight or tommorow.

IF its from Leons then get it done trust me especially with the two little ones living upstairs!

my mom bought hers at leons and got the spary and they lasted her about 12years i mean we did it all to those couches from jumping to eating to sleeping on them and it took about 10years for us to cause a tear in them! so i highly recommened it only cuz of personal expereience! however they do get really hot and they get really cold in the winter time (u may want to think about that) and are not very comfy when sleeping on

$250???? sounds too much... is that an optional warranty???

there's a cream that you apply to the leather to protect it and moisturize it, but you can do it yourself...

Ya it's an optional fee that kind of serves as a warranty.
The creams your talking about sound good. Plus we don't have kids ruin them yet.
