Call it a miracle that I actually read through this whole thread here...lol. After sifting through the minefield of typos and wiping off my puke, I came to this conclusion: Don't matter what music you listen to!F@ck wake up! It doesn't make you more of a spic if you listen to rock, reggaeton, salsa, OPERA...WHO CARES?!?!. The blood running through your veins and the PRIDE you have for your nationality which reflects on how you represent it defines your true "latinoism" ....PERIOD.
...ON THE OTHER HAND, you have to admit that the lingo being used (i.e. Nigga, brotha, yo yo yo yo) is a faaaaaaar cry from anything latino...that goes hand in hand with a person's character. Yes I know the new generation has had a big urban influence. But that's the key word...INFLUENCE:
Influence \In"flu*ence\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Influenced; p. pr. & vb. n. Influencing.]
To control or move by power, physical or moral; to affect by gentle action; to exert an influence upon; to modify, bias, or sway; to move; to persuade; to induce.
We see it big time in the new generation. I'm sorry...That fact sticks on this topic more than a fly sticks to caca. "Salsa is for homos" is the same ignorant stereotype comment like "Reggaeton is for wannabe mayates". People have their tastes for music. We have gringo red necks that go to a wannabe classy club, take the gay salsa lessons and love salsa. Then we have the same gringo red necks that tune into Z103.5 and listen to reggaeton.
In the end, you're no better of a spic than anyone else... no matter your preference in music.

Y2J love the way you put it down, you took the wordz of my mouth this is exactly what I wuz thinking. Salsa musica de viejos? Este man ni conoze quien es Rey Ruiz? Hip Hop en Ecuador? Hip Hop ain't never been that big in Ecuador like Y2 said solo los que se creen ricos o gringos like Hip Hop en Ecuador. Este man Danny no sabe what he be say'in he thinks he can fool some of us pero even though I wasn't born en Ecuador I know alot about mi famila and my second home which I call mi querido Ecuador! Like I said before I love everything about my latin background just remember Reggaeton es mas de Puerto Rico that's where it came from and it hasn't been around as long as Salsa. I like Reggaeton some of it but Salsa es mejor mucho mejor que Reggaeton believe dat! Apuesto que Danny don't even talk much spanish hora que vive en Canada
I think if you ain't listening to salsa then you ain't a true latino cause salsa is the best kind of music us latinos got. Reggaeton is cool but true what the next man said one can only listen and dance to it for so long. I've been into salsa since I wuz a young pup cause my old man has alwayz been into it. Gran Combo, Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, Joe Arroyo and so on...Prehaps you ain't feeling it cause you don't know how to dance to it and like I've said before with salsa romantica you ain't never been in love. This reminds me of R&B and when I first began listening to it and how brothas were saying "what's wrong with chu?" Ain't nuth'in wrong with Aaron Hall, Mary J, Jodeci just to name a few. I remember dem dayz the girls were loving it, I wasn't gonna play Snopp Dog, Eazy E for my girls. Like I said before I love gangsta rap but only when fight'in or with the crew as I caused trouble back in the dayz. I'm alot wiser now so I don't listen to PAC as often but love listening to his music when training. I avoid trouble unless of course trouble comes my way because you know how we latinos be. It's true what people say in regards to how lyrics in songs influence us and it's true coming from experience.
I might be wrong about this, and correct me if I am, BUT..... didn't salsa emerge in the 70's? If that's the case... there's probably a dozen other genres that would identify US latinos, before salsa, no?

reggaeton combies both the urban taste with the twist of latin music...cant get any better for me...and to bust some quiet time with a wifey theres far more to just some romantic salsa to listen to trust me!
2. keep in mind that i spent my years growing up in ecuador..and alot of guys there arent into romantic salsa ..its either rock pop even hiphop...all that cumbia salsa etc.. is considered musica de viejos over there... u should know this.... bachata aint even big there....Julio J on the other hand ...il give u that!!!!!i like him
its here.... and u cant do nothing about it
its been here for soo long and i never cared i did my own thing
how can most people say that reggaeton/hiphop is mostly for youths ? hahhahaha like i said if i never liked traditional latin music from b4 things wont change...
i can get all romantic with a latina while listening to some spanish soft rock , r&b , spanish pop or some slow reggaeton or hiphop jam..
3.thank you
amen
see you all after my trip
1. u been into all this b4 me..... i dont think so..... cuz just what u know.... i know..... so dont come tell me u been in all this b4 me.... por que de el mismo pais somos y venimos oyendo la misma musica y la misma trayectoria.... so no sabes nada extraordinario que me pueda sorprender.... once again.... primero averigua antes de hablar...lol......

my point proven b4!!!!!!...its comments like that i get all the time....
its these same cats that think cause they goto spanish clubs and listen to salsa and all the traditional latin music they r more latino then the next person
meanwhile they cant even speak a word of spanish ..they ended up living here most of their life..and when u ask them about back home they stare at you with a WTF face
I am very aware of my culture...backround....i read and speak spanish fluently ....which at the end makes me more latino then the other try hards
and if you dont think i aint a true latino...brotha ...im probably one of the few ecuadorians here who luv and appreciate musica andina/folklorica ecuatoriana ..u know what im talking about right.... the ones that perform at the latin festivals with their ponchos and all ...while most of those stupid retard young trendy latino kids point out and laugh at them...if ur a true ecuatoriano or latino ...u would definetly have some luv for that
Prehaps you ain't feeling it cause you don't know how to dance to it
i never fully felt it when i was young ...i sure hell wont feel it in the future.....i respect it deep down and ma badddddddddddd for making fun of it

REALLY? You can't be serious......
I love music, especially Salsa with good lyrics (not boogaloo....o God I hate boogaloo LOL)....and I disagree with you.....because some of the GREATEST Latin artists ever are NOT salseros....some are but not all.....
And a lot of the "true" Latinos I know....are ROCKEROS....not Salseros....
I'm going to start a thread just to see what makes a "true" Latino....for my own curiosity.

Danny going back at you loco...Romantic Salsa is the **** loco...Just imagine you dancing with a girl you really like? Reggaeton is alright to dance pero I guess there's a point in life where Salsa comes in and its more "classier". You don't wanna be 40 and busting to reggaeton at every party or do you? At 50/60 yrs old since you'll already be hunchback what's the point of dancing to reggaeton si ya vas a estar en el cuelo. Loco no hay como bailar Salsa (aunque me cueste pero le hago jajaja). I listen to it all trust me, but Salsa to dance is alot more romantic then dancing reggaeton jaja. There's only so many moves a guy can do before actually looking gay
Mira Danny like I said before I listen to romantic salsa, love salsa! Especially when I'm wit my girl, that is pretty much all I listen to of course I play slow romanticas like Luis Miguel, Franco Devita and all. Sounds like you never been in love, I ain't ashamed to admitt it because I love my girl. You still young so you most likely ain't fallen in love yet or like some probably won't, eveybody don't fall in love. All I got in this world is my one and only girl, that be who I trust nobody else. Don't get it twisted though I also love gangsta rap like dem hitz from Death Row especially Tupac's music! You see a got a bad side and a good side like everybody out there so when I'm training well I tend to listen to PAC he motivates me when boxing. I ain't gonna listen to hard core hip hop when hang'in with my girl so I listen to Marc Anthony for example even soft romaticas. Many men don't want to admitt the truth but I ain't ashamed because I am real and I know I will become a good father and supporter for my family plus I can defend myself if trouble tends to come my way. Danny I know you may think Ruiz es marica which is fine, that's just your opinion but you can't laugh at others who listen to him or salsa romanitca en general you know. Don't forget I do love Calderon's music so it ain't all soft sh it.
i listen 2 that music and i dont c the funny thing in it.. what i c funny is that som1 doesnt know about it or the artist...... como dirian por alli.... analfabeta musical.........lol..........
and dont get me wrong..... i grow up with reggaeton and rap.... but thats not the only music in the world....... and if u dont know whats goin on around u...... THATS SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD............ cuz i bet u know the song from hector el father con Victor Manuelle and u dont know where it came from..... like alot of other reggaeton songs...... thats not cool..... de que te sirve oir reggaeton 24/7 cuando nisiquiera sabes donde estas parado.....lol
Sin animo de ofender a nadie..... pero si defendiendo a un ARTISTA.... y a un genero de musica que aun que te rias.... its here.... and u cant do nothing about it.......lol.......
Luv ya mucho

no no and no..im not into jerry nor eddie non of that soft ****..im sorry but romantic salsa in my opinion goes hand in hand with a womens taste... i dunno its just me.. i grew up listening to hiphop spanish reggae/reggaeton
when im vibbing with some girl..ill hear some old school hiphop r&b or some slow reggaeton jam..
ive been told im less of a latino cause i dont go buckwild when some marc anthony tracks comes on..lol its those same latinos that cant speak a **** of spanish and dont know nothing about their countries ..but think them dancing to salsa justifies them to be latino enough hahaha...
and plus i think the old school salsa all the hector lavoe etc..is ten times better then the romantic salsa
Danny you can't be for real? I mean Rey Ruiz had some good **** back in the dayz. I ain't sure which tune you saw but he wuz alright still. As far as salsa romantica goes Marc Anthony's first album still one of the best out there till these day! Of course there are many more artist out there who hold it down for romantic salsa but it's hard to touch Marc Anthony. I'm sure you've heard of Eddie Santiago? You tell'in us you ain't never listen to his romantic hitz when chill'in wit your girl? You know he's coming and it should be jammed packed! I love salsa whether it be Tito Gomez, India, Tito Nieves, Tito Rojas you know it!
I love Salsa, but Im more into the old school, hardcore salsa. The romantic one is nice to listen to or chill to, but not really to dance. Then again, depende con quien. LOL
