I was an after school activities dork!!!! I did everything from sewing, basketball, taking courses, guitar lessons, dance lessons, learning English (this was back home)...
Oh, well, I guess I wasn't much of an after school activities dork...
But I still want to learn stuff!!! Next on my list: learning French! And pastel-making.
I know this sounds really "white" or "Canadian" but I recommend (for those foroers w/ young kids) Girl Guides/Boy Scouts. My daughter is in Guides and my son is in Scouts... they BOTH love it and they are learning new skills all the time (leadership, independance, confidence building). Now, I don't want to sound like an infomercial but it really is worth it.
And to answer the question, I was never in any after school activities (just the regular sports teams at school) but nothing outside of that (my parents couldn't afford it ).
I learned how to make the coolest nots , how to make fires and $hit like that...cool stuff ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Great! did you find the Trauco in one of your camps?
Let's see....soccer, juggling, woodburning, chess, scout juggling didn't turn into a carreer but I got some money for the parkingmeter once...so I can use it to get some extra cash... Woodburning with magnifying glasses turned into an innocent pyromania and my parents didn't approved it. And chess...well, I thought that would be my future, but after I was kicked out of a tournament for punching the other guy during a game...I gave up! I guess the only one I still keep is soccer.

Did you follow through with it and make a side career out of it? Nope
What came out of it.....were you forced by your parents? Not forced, just interests at different points of growing up... But I think I can kick Danny's butt! *testing his "new ways"*
I only played basketball all through Grade 1 - OAC ...and then I coached kids.

No to say I never followed thru any of my after school activities.
I was always in something, never really liked any of them.
I took Ballet, swimming, tennis (the one I enjoyed the most), horse back riding (couldn't see a carrer on it). I enjoyed them but never loved it enough to think of it as a carrer.

Well i played all the sports teams my school had to offer, i even played curling, and at a young age i was introduced to boxing and i was going to it after my practice or games, and it went on for 8 years, now i coach kids in socer
So was it all a good thing or a waste of time if nothing came out of it?
OR
Was it just to keep you busy after school?
Hey miss reporter LOL
No it was not a waste of time, I really enjoyed all of it, except Ballet but that was kind of THE thing to do back then when you had a little girl.
I still LOVE swimming it is just that I don't know where to go and have look for it anyway. As for Tennis, I will need to take some lessons because it has been so long.
Definitively not just to keep me busy after school, believe me , I had enough struggles with my homework ! But my mom refused to see me at home not doing anything. "un esprit sein dans un corps sein" kind of thing And back then, remember, we had no video games, no computers, etc... so basically you were going out your house, play with the kids and enjoy after school activites. What a great time !

Woww, let me remember, Ballet, Judo, Swimming, Tennis, Art classes (drawing and painting @ the Louvre), chorale (non-religious oriented) and stupid never ending Maths lessons which never really helped me anyway. I was extremely hermetic to it I think
So what did you do with all that "talent"?
Like you put it "talent" ! I hated the Ballet and maths lessons but loved the rest. I guess everything pretty much stopped when I entered "la prepa" to much homework and now, I am too lazy to start again, although tennins will be great.
