I would consider black people who are latino to be a different culture altogether....they aren't the ones involved in T.O's violence.  It's the small % of bad mofo blacks who take the hiphop culture way too far, get involved in crazy sh1t, with everything ending in some kind of violence or jail term... don't even get me started with their white enimem loving sidekicks that wanna get involved too.

fyi: that shooting on sunday night on that rooftop once again proves what goes around comes around, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY that our legal system esta como las huevas http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1153260643077&call_pageid=968350130169&col=969483202845

I'm not disputing that SOME tourists go to Colombia. Hell, SOME tourists go to Aghanistan and Iraq, which I'm sure are beautiful countries aswell. Unfortunately, your average tourist consumer, when given a choice between going to one of the world's hotspots, and Florida, will choose the latter. That being said, the situation in Colombia IS improving (I felt safer in Bogotá than in Mexico City), but there is still a lot of work to do. Colombia has a lot to offer: it does. It's a beautiful country with a great culture, great weather and great food. When the political situation is resolved, I'm sure it will be receiving millions of visitors a year. But that won't be happening in 2006.

Agreed!!!!

I have to elaborate on this one.  Cartagena is on of the larger areas for tourism in Colombia, but its not the only one.  I know you said along the coast, but I just want to be a little more specific.
La Feria de CALI
La Feria de Baraquilla
Santa Marta
La Fiesta de las Flores (Medellin)
El Pueblito Paisa (Medellin)
a little Island called SAN ANDRES
I'm sure there are more than just these areas, or feria's that bring in tourism.  These are the few that come to mind right away.
@MJ, I've gone to Colombia every 2 - 3 years, and I have witness one shooting in my time there, and had a few scares here and there.  ButI can honestly say is that overall my experiences have been great, from what I can remember at least ... too much Aguardiente Antioqueno  ...  if there is such a thing

I didn't see a single tourist at the pueblito paisa. Not one. All colombian.

The others you mention are specific fairs, which I haven't gone to.

And Santa Marta and Barranquilla are both coastal, as is San Andrés BTW. Very little FARC activity there.

The bottom line is, a country where there are military check points every few kilometers on its roads will never be (and indeed, isn't) a prime tourist destination.

Colombia receives 940 000 tourists a year. Compare that to Canada's 15 million or Spain's 55 million.

There is simply no debating this... the numbers are overwhelming.

If phanta want's to believe that black youth are being killed by KKK members or that its all a media conspiracy, that's fine.

Are these black people racist???

http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_12.06.01/news/streets.html

Sometimes politicians play the numbers game to determine whether a problem is big or small -- whether they should pay attention. Toronto's black community is asking when the numbers are big enough to get a political response.

Over the last five years, more than 100 black youths have met violent death -- most by gunshot -- at the hands of other black youths. So far this year, more than 20 black kids have been murdered in the city. The patterns and numbers make it clear this is not just a series of isolated incidents.

The murder rate in the City of Toronto averages around 55 per year, although it went as high as 65 back in 1994. Compared to American cities with more than 2 million residents, this is an exceptionally low rate. But more than one-third of all murders have occurred within a small subset of the population -- black youth -- and there is widespread agreement within the black community that the perpetrators come from the same subset.

....

Or how about the Toronto Star?

http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1026146837542&call_page=TS_RaceAndCrime&call_pageid=1034935301156&call_pagepath=GTA/Race_and_Crime&col=1034935301113

The same analysis of a massive police database also reveals that a disproportionate number of blacks were charged with violent crimes. These include homicides, attempted murder, sex assaults, gun-related offences and assaults. These are cases where officers, due to the serious nature of the charges, have little room to exercise even a subconscious bias.

The data show that accused black people represent nearly 27 per cent of all violent charges; this, although the latest census figures show that only 8.1 per cent of the population list their skin colour as black.

Those are the hard numbers.

Everything else is wishful thinking. A fantasy world, pink, lovely, and pure, where choir boys are equally as likely to commit a murder as young men from troubled families.

Thats a good point. Do we agree then that there are socioeconomical conditions that make a person more likely to commit a crime rather then there being some kind of "black gene" and that if the distribution of wealth were such that there were more poor white people that poor black people than the stats would be opposite? and were do these hard numbers come from I wonder. U got a link? Cause I know stats can doesnt keep race/crime statistics.

I don't think anyone is arguing that there is a black criminal gene.

The 350 000-strong black community is still overwhelmingly law-abiding. We're not talking about thousands of murders a year, but we are talking about overrepresentation in murder (as perpetrators AND victims) from a community that is only 8% of the population of the city.

A community that also has a disproportionate drop out rate, and an unemployment rate three times the average (21% vs 7%).

The study was done by a University of Toronto sociologist. Here's the link:

Putting violence in its context

I'm sure you can find the Toronto Star article at the reference library.

I live in sauga . it s a lot more than before i can t argue with that but u still see more in toronto than sauga , its growing though .

So why live up to those stereo types??? If you want to be treated differently, then its in your hands to change the way people see you.  Just because your appearance may change abit it doesn't mean that you forget who you are.  This is just MY OPINION on this topic. I agree with u dude. As far as the way people dress I wish it werent like that and people werent judged on the basis of what they wear but we live in the real world and thats just the way it is. To be fair, you see more baggy panted jersey wearin fools out in Mississauga and most of them are white... so hahaha buddy are you for real???? . have you ever being to north york?? jane and finsh?? you can t even compared mississauga to those places. Mississauga is mostly ginos ...

This was taken WAY out of context!!
First of all, we were talking about an incident that happend in THIS city.  Somehow it became a world wide issue.
To compare the city of Toronto to the country of COLOMBIA, is LAUGHABLE, RIDICULES, AND PATHETIC!!!
All of us have friends of various cultures/ethnicities.  I don't look at my black friends and think they're going to stab me!!!
Your points are just so stupid!!  I was talking to a very good friend of mine from Barbados and he agrees with me!!  He won't even let his own children attend those events and he's black so what does that say??  He's racist too??!!!  I'm sure everyone went to that club with the intentions of having a good time and hang out with friends and unfortunately it took one idiot to spoil it for everyone else.  They don't have metal detectors at every club, now do they?
ANYWAY, you may go to those clubs and have a good time but I, on the other hand, have had to deal with low class idiots!!!  Am I saying all black people are like that?  NO!!  I've been to several hip hop clubs and either I've been groped, shoved around, pushed, or just plain and simple, insulted!!!  That pretty much told me, NO THANKS!!!  I'll pass on the next "wicked" jam!!!

You should be grateful you didnt get sHOtUP! I say you never go back to them places again.

Rick and MJ... if you dont feel you are prejudiced then dont include yourselves. I did not name any names. Also, MJ we are talkin about Toronto, but if Blacks are somehow criminal by nature than it stands to reasons that blacks everywhere would exibit this trait. Or is there something about Toronto that makes black people go on these murderous rampages? I blame the Raptors... they havent had a descent season in years.. that'll make any bother wanna shoot people!

Nobody say black are criminals for nature , did anyone said that???? , could you quote that for me because i don recall seein that . I guess you don t read the newspapers or watch the news . I ll remember to send you a newspaper after i m done with it. I guess if i said spanish are the biggest group of illegals in the united states that would make me racist against my culture and i guess you would come and say " oh man you are sayin all spanish people are illegal in the states; you are so racist !!! " or if i say mostly black people wear baggy pants and listen to hiphop that would also make racist right???. Also somehow you seem to confused what we write here . LET ME REPEATED IN CAPS SO YOU CAN READ IT MORE CLEARLY . WE SAID MOST, NOONE HERE SAID ALL BLACK , OR BEING BLACK MAKES YOU A CRIMINAL
