I agree that he felt offended but what better way 2 make those pay who have offended u, just score 1 winning goal n send them home packing that's how u do it in sports not by taking your self out of a game n bringing your team down with u.

Let's think about this.

You are the best player in the world, playing your last game on a World Cup final. You scored the first goal by penalty kick, against the best goalie of the world.

Now it's the second half of overtime...the game is still tied, you have just missed an incredible goal opportunity, which the goalie saved... the game will surely be decided on penalty kicks. You are certainly one of the designated shooters...you've already faced the goalie, and scored by shooting a very well positioned penalty kick, that almost didn't go in.

You desire to retire on top, with all the glory...you want to be remembered....but there are good chances that this time your shot won't go in, either because the goalie will save it, or because the ball will not hit the net in your effort to position it as far away from the goalie as possible. What to do, you don't want to be remembered as the guy who missed the decisive penalty kick, and lost the final.....

I think Zidane saw no other better way out than the expulsion from the game, he has heard all kinds of trash talk in his career. He retired in controversy, but not as a loser....very smart if that's the case.
