It was soooo obvious that she was going to WIN!

I think that she deserved EVERY little bit of her victory, she's not only Beautiful but has shown her awesome talent & that she can be an entertainer.

Good for her & hopefully she goes far!!

Ummmm I have been watching Canadian Idol and I can say that the girls suck and the guys are way better singers...

I also have a feeling (i think its always been the case though)  that people that are non-caucasian do not get very far in Canadian Idol! Just yesterday a girl (i think she is Pilipina)who all judges thought would get far got booted because Canada didnt vote for her.

Do you guys think Canadian Idol is racist? I mean I am cheering on all the minority cuz they are the only ones that seem to be in the bottom all the time! Thats why I tend to stop watching after a while cuz then its just pure rockers...its always the same thing!

The main reason why minorities always seem to be in the bottom is because well......the pple who mainly vote are the caucasian Canadians and they seem to always be voting for their own regardless of talent in some cases.    Sad but true (in my opinion)

if she is the best thing to happen to latin people in canada in the last 25 years. then what does that say about our latin community? we must suck then!

no offense, but she's a 19 year old girl who sings. she has talent and all of that, and she definitely represents her heritage proudly and well, but give me a break. there are plenty of latin "winners" in this country who have accomplished more important things, lets not exaggerate here.

that being said, go Eva, good work!! viva el peru!!

Who's Lucas? I think he is in another contest for SuperNova. Eva is in Canadian idol competing the final with Craig Sharpe. there's no Lucas in that competition.

Having Eva and Craig Sharpe made it to the final last Monday, the Canadian Idol winner will be announced this Sunday Sep. 17, 7 p.m., CTV, cable 8.

After religiously watching the show since mid-July I think she deserves to and should be the winner as a way more accomplished singer and talent than everyone else who participated thdi year. Hopefully most TV viewers voted this way. If so, she'll be crowned Canadian Idol 2006.

She was awesome tonight, actually the best of the Top 7. If you want to vote for her until 11 p.m. tonight, the number is 1-866-943-6503. I think she'll pass easily tomorrow. The weakest singers tonight were Chad and Stephanie D.

Canadian Idol night listening and voting comes back. Eva sings this Monday August 7 at 8 p.m. in CTV. These are the Top 7 finalists, so again, out of 12,000 contestants nation-wide we have a Latin-Canadian singer for the first time ever, in Canadian musical mainstream world, making it to the top.

If you are interested, listen to her on Monday night and, if you like her performance, support her by voting by phone during the two hours that follow the program.

Last night she was voted among the bottom 3 contestants, together with two guys: Brandon and Chad. Next she was told she was staying in the competition and went back to the group of 7 finalists. Brandon was eliminated, though his last participation on Monday was the best.

Eva is now on the Top 7. They will sing classic rock songs this Monday August 7, at 8 p.m.

Eva goes into the Top 8!

Without any problem, Eva was not eliminated tonight, so she goes into the Top 8!!! Next Monday July 31, at 8 p.m. they will be singing, with Cindy Lauper's assistance. Unfortunately they left Brandon in and they got Sarah Loverock out. She is a great singer, and he is not.

Desafortunadamente dejaron a Brandon y sacaron a Sarah Loverock.

Eva sang very well last night. I think it'd be impossible for her not to sing well. It was all Rolling Stones songs, which are not really her strength. Still she did pretty well, so she should remain in the competition after tonight's elimination round, CTV at 8 p.m. From what I saw last night, it's likely that a young guy named Brandon gets the boot. The other one that I like very much is Sarah Loverock but she was not very good last night. Anyway, I am confident Eva will make it to the Top 8!

Only to remind you that tonight, 8 p.m. CTV, the Top 9 competitors of Candian idol will sing again. I am sure that Eva Avila will sing and enchant everyone again, so we should all watch and vote for her. Voting is done by phone, during the two hours follwing the show.

 Eva rocks tonight!

As suspected she sang sensationally, a Nelly Furtado song. I'm voting now as many votes as I can for her. I'd be surprised if she does not make it to the TOP 9 tomorrow, CTV at 8 pm. She was GRRRRRREAT!

Ben Mulroney Introduces the Canadian Idol Top 10. Click here for more of this year's Idols!

Y luego del show, ¡a votar!

Toronto, ON (July 12, 2006) – Over 12,000 auditioned. Only 10 are left. After a massive 3.3 million votes were received following Monday and Tuesday’s performance episodes, the Canadian Idol Top 10 were revealed tonight live on CTV. Four competitors – Ashley Coles, 16, Caledonia, ON; Sheldon Elter, 27, Edmonton, AB; Keith Macpherson, 27, Winnipeg, MB; and Nancy Silverman, 19, Thornhill, ON - received the fewest votes and were eliminated from the competition. They now go home while 10 others begin rehearsals for next Monday’s first Canadian Idol Top 10 show, an expanded 90-minute broadcast live from Toronto’s John Bassett Theatre. Featuring guest star Nelly Furtado, the first Top 10 theme show pays tribute to “Canada Rocks!” with an all-Canadian song list.

** Media Note ** - Photography and audio clips from tonight’s show are available online on the Canadian Idol Media Centre at www.idolpix.ca.

The Canadian Idol Top 10 is comprised of five women and five men, ranging in age from 16 to 28 and hailing from Gibsons, BC to Upper Island Cove, NL. The 10 finalists represent Canada’s diverse musical talent, regional distinctions and rich history of musical excellence. There are three competitors from Ontario and one each from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Five of the 10 are teenagers. All will be household names before the summer is over.

Meet the Canadian Idol Top 10:

Eva Avila, 19, Gatineau, QC
• Ashley Coulter, 23, Emeryville, ON
• Steffi DiDomenicantonio, 17, Orleans, ON
• Chad Doucette, 17, East Chezzetcook, NS
• Kati Durst, 26, Goderich, ON
• Rob James, 28, Winnipeg, MB
• Brandon Jones, 17, Quispamsis, NB
• Tyler Lewis, 20, Rockglen, SK
• Sarah Loverock, 25, Gibsons, BC

The first Top 10 show is an expanded 90-minute special, airing Monday, July 17 from 8 – 9:30 p.m.

Whaaaat??? They voted off a sistah??!!!!! RACISTSSS!!!!!!

I think you're partly right. People vote for what they can relate to or what they're used to seeing. I don't think there has been an Asian singing sensation (yet!) that people can identify with.

And don't forget, the GTA, Montreal and Vancouver are the biggest mixed race communities in Canada. There are a lot of other cities that get to vote that aren't so 'accepting' of 'minority' celebrities.

btw, isn't Melissa O'Neill half asian?

Check Eva out and vote for her

Next show for Eva is this coming Tuesday on CTV, 8:00 pm. Eva is now part of the top 18, so if you have a chance to watch Canadian Idol on Tuesday, check Eva's performance and, if you like it, vote for her that same night. 4 will be eliminated this coming week and 4 more will be eliminated the following week, so that we are left with the top 10 contestants. The voting is done by people using their phones the 2 hours that follow the show, not by the judges.

To have an idea of how difficult it has been for Eva Avila to make it to this stage, let me say that the selection process for Canadian Idol included 12,000 auditions all across Canada.

Out of the 12,000 participants only 22 were picked to remain in the competition. Last week 4 were eliminated so we get next week into the top-18.  Performance shows will be broadcast Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET, with results announced on Wednesdays at 9:30pm ET.

Eva Avila

Age: 19
Occupation: Postal Clerk/Beauty Consultant
Hometown: Hull, QC
Audition City: Ottawa, ON
Place of Birth: Ottawa, ON
Nickname: "Ev," "Fafa," or "Eva le dragon"
Sounds like: Natasha Bedingfield
Identifies With: Jennifer Lopez
Canadian Idol: Nelly Furtado
Favourite Song: The Revolution
Motto: "Listen to your heart."

"To be the Canadian Idol you have to reach all kinds of people, because there are all kinds of people in this country. The more people you touch, the better."

Eva, a former winner of the province-wide singing competition "Jeune Diva du Quebec," first sang in public at the age of three. She says she would love to follow in the footsteps of Nelly Furtado. "I admire that girl so much, because she's amazingly simple, talented and beautiful," she says. She would love to meet Michael Jackson as she feels that he has revolutionized the music industry.

Eva has become friends with Canadian Idol Top 22 competitor Anna-Belle Oliva. "We have a similar sense of humour so we had lots of good laughs together," she says. Eva feels that each Canadian Idol competitor in the Top 22 is unique and very different and she thinks that's awesome.

Eva, who speaks English, French and Spanish, is proud of her Quebec/Peruvian roots (her mother is French-Canadian while her father is Peruvian). In addition to loving saltado de pollo (a Peruvian dish), Eva loves sushi, anything Thai and her mom's Shepherd's Pie.

Her favourite movie is Ghost and her favourite articles of clothing are her Bob Marley and American Eagle sweatshirts. Eva also loves to support her hometown hockey team Les Olympiques de Hull.

Eva believes that Canadians are the best singers in the world. "They stay true to who they are and they don't imitate any other artist," she says. "They sing from the heart. They're authentic."

Canadian Idol Song List:
Top 22: "Angel" (Sarah McLachlan)
Top 18:  "Killing Me Softly" (Roberta Flack)
