Wow ni queria Dios!   Poor old lady   I know she broke several bones pero me alegro que Dios ya se la llevo con el.  Para evitar el sufrimiento (if you spell it that way) y el dolor.

Woman Dragged Half A Block Under Streetcar
Monday June 19, 2006

It is the kind of accident we can only imagine ourselves being involved in - getting trapped underneath a T.T.C. streetcar on a busy route in downtown Toronto.

The unthinkable horror happened to an 86-year-old woman just after the noon hour Monday.

It appears she was crossing the street at the Lake Shore and Islington, when she was apparently struck by the westbound streetcar.

The red rocket was only going about 10 kilometres an hour at the time, but the momentum was enough to throw her under the vehicle.

She was trapped and as horrified pedestrians watched, the electric car dragged her half a block before the operator realized what was happening.

Rick Singh was a witness. "There was so much struggle with the police trying to get the streetcar off," he remembers. "I could just imagine like what happened when she got hit. And, you know, how did she get in front of the streetcar in the first place?"

Paramedics were summoned and the woman was freed from her painful prison and rushed to St. Michael's Hospital. But it took at least 30 minutes as she lay moaning under the heavy weight.

"It was terrifying for everyone, being there," admits Sgt. Jeff Redden. "I mean she was literally under the streetcar. We had to jack the streetcar up to get her out."

The victim suffered several broken bones to her pelvis, hip, elbow and shoulder. Medical personnel say it's a miracle she wasn't more seriously hurt or even killed.

The rescue workers say she was breathing and conscious when they placed in her in the ambulance, but everyone was afraid she'd suffered fatal injuries.

"I knew that she was an older lady," Singh remembers. "I thought, you know, this could happen to anybody's mom, sister, grandmother. It goes to show you, you always have to just be careful crossing the street because you never know what's going to happen."

The T.T.C. has so far refused to comment until a full investigation takes place, but police confirm charges are pending. They're looking for more witnesses to the accident. If you're one of them, call Crime Stoppers at  (416) 222-TIPS.
