well you know what I don't think there should be any problem having a joint account if two people are living together or are married, they are mature enough in handling the money situation if anything in the future happens, and expenses should be split in half, now if one of the persons makes more than the other, it shouldn't matter, that is why they are together to share

An option for Savings would be each person puts in the same amount of money at the end of the month in a joint account.....in case of a break up or whatever the money is split down the middle but with already accumulated interest....that is JUST for savings.....and it can even be used for a vacation....

What Daeveed says makes sense for a married couple.....

But somehow now in days everyone thinks for themselves and THEIR money, THEIR expenses and how THEY like to handle money......is it a TRUST issue or a RESPONSABILITY one.....

I don't see a problem with joint accounts.. if u are in a stable and healthy relationship.. especially if you're married, then a joint account does come in handy.

The joint account could be used for general bill payments ie: hydro, gas, cable, phone, groceries, etc... But also an account extra for one-self is not a bad idea.

Keep in mind though... both parties need to be on the same page and had agreed on how the joint account is going to work!!!!

True story: hubby and I started off having a joint account and everything in theory was going to be fine and dandy because we so loved each other and we would live happily ever after. Well, I'm the nazi cop stickler cheapo when it comes to money, and I'm obsessively compulsive when it comes to paying bills, so I was always on hubby's case when it came to his liberal ways of handling money. So one day he rebelled and said, "no more. I'm opening my own account." Well, he did, we divided our expenses, and the TV Buff and Hubby residence is a nicer and more peaceful place to live in since then. He became a lot more responsible with money and I started to breathe.

I guess there is no right answer so to each his own, but I prefer having seperate accounts.
I am not a penny pincher, but I like to know where my money is and what is it being spent on.
I just recently got married and that's how it's gonna stick. Plus it's not like we got married for the privilige of having a joint account
The most important thing will be making sure the bills are paid, theres food on the table and that you enjoy your free time by going out, staying in or whatever.

I would say that both should keep their personal account, no need to have a joint one.

And it's not about not trusting or one making more than the other, well for me. It is just easier that way ! It doesn't mean that you won't share the house and outing expenses.

Well that's how we did it forthe longest time and never had any problem, desagrement or arguement on the money.

So I was talking to a coworker during lunch and we starting discussing how couples (married or not) that are living together handle money.  I believe if you decide to move in with someone then each other’s income should go into a joint account.  You'll be spending in the same stuff anyways, rent, food, vacation, etc..  My coworker on the other hand thinks what's his is his and what's hers is hers.  He can pay for, lets say rent, and she can pay for food.  If they go on vacation then they can go half half. For the people that already live with their significant other, how does it work in your house?  For the rest, how do you think it should work?

We each have our personal accounts and one joint account for business reasons but we both contribute to it and that money pays the bills!!

and we have our seperate ones for one reason hes gotta pay child support and im legally still married!

Yesi yeah, that's what I said.  What if one of them makes more money than the other one?  Then he or she will have more money to spend on his or her own needs,  Like el duro said, in entertainment, clothing.. I will agree with el Duro, I think that you should have a join account, what is the point of marrying someone if they will just be your room mate with benefits LOL.  But probably your friend makes way more money than his girl and that is why he wants to keep his.  Very selfish if you ask me Yesi
