My father is a cab driver and I could understand the safety concern issue. I am completely am in favour of the shield because the last thing I would want, is to receive a call from the police telling me my father has been killed or assaulted. However, because my father owns his own cab, the cost of this shield is directly his responsibility, therefore I also don't agree with it being mandatory... Generally, in my fathers case, he already has steady customers that he deals with and what he mostly enjoys about his job is the interaction he gets to have with them. Having him secluded in that tiny little shield will I think take away his ability to socialize and make his customers feel comfortable in his vehicle. Don't get me wrong, his safety is my #1 concern, but I think the government needs to step in and work something out that will be viable for everyone. I can't see my father dropping $5000 on this shield....and then that asks another question...what was the point of dropping $5000 installing the mandatory security camera and alarm, if this shield issue has been a debate for the last 12 years....then they should have gone with the shield long time ago! As for people who go around robbing cabbies, whether it be violently or just getting out of the car and running without paying...should be severly punished by a court of law...
Is your dad named "AKBAR"? lol (inside joke)
Maybe your dad might know AKBAR.....he's Chilenita's private driver.....I'm being serious.....

What do you guys think about added security on buses and in cabs? ie. Shields being installed in cabs. I think those shields are a great idea. What the heck is a camera or a blinking light going to do to protect these cab drivers from getting stabbed??!! They need to make our cabs like the ones in New York. As the very proud daughter of a bus driver, of course I'd like added security for drivers. Obviously my daddy is no longer around but even when he was a driver, I was always worried for him. My daddy was 6'6" and he looked nuts so that did help him but what about those "older" drivers or female drivers?? What about customers?? ie. The little girl who got shot at Jane and Wilson?? I'm thinking too much this morning. PS-Sorry if I'm talking about my daddy too much http://www.pulse24.com/News/Top_Story/20060524-009/page.asp http://www.pulse24.com/News/Top_Story/20060524-003/page.asp -- Edited by Motown Junkie at 09:57, 2006-05-25
EVEN THOUGH PPL SAY IT WILL LOOK LIKE TORONTO IS AN UNSAFE CITY AND THERE MORE WORRIED ABOUT APPERENCE THEN THE SAFETY OF OUR PUBLIC DRIVERS! I THINK ITS PLAIN WRONG!
IM ALL FOR THESE SHIELDS I MEAN HOW MANY MORE CABBIES NEED TO GET ASSULTED OR EVEN WORSE DIE BEFORE THE GOV. DOES SOMETHING AND TTC DRIVERS AS WELL! ITS SAD THAT U CANT FEEL SAFE ON A BUS ANYMORE!
