I THINK ITS A GREAT IDEA!! ONE U HEAR IT FROM FAMILY AND NOT UR SIGNIFICANT OTHER SHE WILL RAMBLE ON IN THE CAR ABOUT AND OPEN THE TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION!! GREAT IDEA !!!
Not such a great idea if the girl's family are all models and really, really good looking (Zoolander accent) and she's the only one who's let "herself go." And not such a great idea at a BBQ either (a real BBQ, not imaginary) and they have all this great food while they're telling her that she should lose weight.

I've got it!!! It has nothing to do with honesty though. Here's the deal. Tell your friend to take her to see his family (if he doesn't have family here, then friends), but beforehand, your friend must tell his family/friends to dicretely mention to her that she's gained a lot weight, and that she should lose some...one by one. It is very important that when this happens, your friend is not part of the conversation. Ideally she should be told at least 3 times during the "visit". Once she gets convinced (a second visit might be necessary), she will most likely mention it to your friend. At this point, we must rely on your friend's diplomacy to lure...err...invite her to join him on physical activities, with the excuse that he is, coincidentally, also gaining weight.

I agree with Chile`s comments. But I notice men seem to put more of an emphasis on that then women do. I mean, some women dont care that when they get with their man they have a six pack, and then within the years they end up with a 2-4 or better yet, a keg.

I think HE should start gaining weight, until one day she tell him..."hey, you're getting fat"..then he should promptly respond "what a beautiful coincidence my dear, I was thinking the same". In all seriousness, I believe honesty is the best way to go. "Honey, you're a fat pig."

I'm with Mr. Güerra on this one. Honesty is the best answer. But instead of concentrating on the weight gain, maybe your friend should dig deeper (not like that, you pervs... ) Weight issues are usually rooted in something else. Maybe it's self-esteem, maybe she's so comfortable in the marriage, the routine. It usually happens, that once you get married, you settle and let certain priorities go. But it's also true that instead of telling her, "honey, you should lose weight" he should encourage her to do things together, especially if he is active himself. That'll not only bring them closer together, but it'll help her as well. Unless she just flat out doesn't see it as a problem. Who knows? What do you care, anyway, Neruda? Just leave 'em alone!

I don't think my friend's wife is pregnant nor would I be friends with someone who complained his wife was fat while she was carrying his child. Normal weight gain (a few pounds) happens to almost everyone who doesn't watch their weight. But I think the issue resolves around the fact that my friend is very active and is encouraging her to do more physical stuff together. But it seems it not her priority anymore or she is secure in her marriage and doesn't care if she gets fat (30-40+ pounds). I have taken more than a casual interest in his delima because (1) he is a good friend and he is wondering if he made a mistake (especailly in the future when she does become pregnant), and (2) he is a lot like me (very health conscious and very active). I admitted to him that I was always afraid that my future wife one day would become so overweight that I would loose O.K. I think that you are contradictng yourself first you say is about health but here you also say you'll LOOSE ATTRACTION to her what is it? all attraction to her.

I AGREE with chilentia if he and her are married he should be able to say something but he has to approach it very carefuly kinda like walking on glass!!

30 - 40 pounds is alot of wieght to gain. That is not just a few pounds that is a big change in apperance. I think he should say something to her. In as nice of a way as he can. He should try his best not to hurt her but he should say something if it's bothering him that much. You should be able to talk to your husband/wife about anything including wieght!

another of those "I have a FRIEND" Stories, eh
I have a friend who would just tell her flat out "Hun, it would be nice if you went back to the way you looked before"... while another friend would just not notice or care.
Who cares if it's only a few -10 - 20 pounds, really... but if she's gaining like 50+ pounds, it may became more of a matter of HEALTH than looks and may want her to lose the weight so she can have a healthier life rather than just to look better... This approach probably works best even when it's only a few pounds.

My friends feels like her weight/health consciousness before their marriage was all a sham. She really didn't like watching her weight or doing all those activities. He feels she's a bit of a fraud (in that matter only).
LMAOOOO.. you gotta love the difference btwn the male perspective and the female perspective.. honestly.. i agree w/ MJ on this one.. tell him that instead of inviting her out to see a movie w/ popcorn to say "hey babes, let's go rollarblading today or let's go for a hike"
*NOTE TO ALL MEN* NEVER EVER EVER TELL YOUR GIRL YOU THINK SHE IS GETTING FAT OR PUTTING ON WEIGHT... it was have the opposite affect and she'll end up resenting you for it...
Now... all together now..
FORO MEN: No hunny, you do not look fat in that dress.. hey wanna go bike riding this weekend.. should be fun!
GFs of FORO MEN: You suck and your winkie is very small!
What is it with everybody about weight, listen it doesn't matter how a person looks, it should be about feelings and how the person is, now I am not saying that a girl/guy should gain like 300 pounds, but if the guy/girsl gains a couple pounds is o.k as long as the person feels good about themselves
What if......like in my case or Chale's case........we DON'T feel good about ourselves? Then it's ok, no???
I know I'm not massive but health wise I'd like to start eating better and cut down on the pounds!! It's seriously a self-esteem crusher!

I have a friend whose significant other is starting to put on the pounds. And he is not happy about it. He asked me what was the best way to convey to her that he thinks she's getting to fat. Is there anyway to do so? Would any woman take it as helpful criticism? -- Edited by neruda at 15:36, 2006-05-18
I think they should both join the gym encourage her to get off her arse and start working out. Typically both tend to gain weight in the relationship but if she's at the point where she gained like 30 in a yr or two then shes gotta start pumping iron.
YES JUST SAY BABE WHY DONT WE JOIN A GYM OR THIS ONE WORKS OMG DID U SEE NERUDAS GIRL SHES PACKING ON THE WEIGHT!! AND THEN SHE WILL COMMENT AND THEN HE CAN SAY YEAH I KNOW BUT HOW DOES NERUDA TELL HER THAT SHES PUTTING ON THE POUNDS AND THEN A FEW DAYS LATER BOOM HE CAN DROP THE BOMB ON HER!!!!!!-- Edited by GENIE at 15:39, 2006-05-18

b) A GOOD boyfriend wouldn't mind a couple of pounds here and there. I'm constantly complaining and my bf never argues with me. He just says, "Babe, you're beautiful regardless. Whatever you want to do, I'll support you 100%!!" Obviously, he won't like me taking diet pills but I know he would accompany me when I go rollerblading or go to the gym just to be that motivational, positive person that everyone needs.
Does he know why his girl is gaining weight? BC pill? Too much eating? STRESS??!! He should try to look at it from every perspective/angle. Now that the weather is getting better, do more outdoor activities and have lots more $ex!!! Great cardio workout!!!
