Question to you know....how much do you really support baseball in Toronto?

I go to as many Blue Jay games a year as I can.

I got watch some of the Maple Leaf from the intercounty baseball league at Christie Pitts.

I play in a league myself.

I for the life of me.....can't go watch some of the rep and house leagues out there.....Can't stand the way most of them play.....but that's a personal choice.

That's about it.

I follow both the American and National league.......I focus more on the American 'cause the Jays are in it.......but I like the way the National league plays better.

I don't know if that answers you question.

You are right I can't see where you said you didn't like it.  It just seems like you don't.

Question to you know....how much do you really support baseball in Toronto?

Especially when here in Toronto....there are sooo many "soccer fans" already that "support" soccer.....why waste the tax money?  They only soccer games that get sold out are when they bring European teams over. So what does that tell ya? THat the soccer market here is false....and all that money will be a waste.

I don't spy on kids while they're playing in the school yard, creepo! I strongly suggest you don't either!

Sure, but that is all that Toronto FC needs, a couple of big name players at the tail end of their career to help bring in people to the stadium.  I'm not suggesting that they will go out and buy a Cristiano Ronaldo, or a Wayne Rooney, but more someone to the likes of a Del Piero, Zidane, Figo... Guys who are passed their prime and just because of their name they will draw a crowd.  I know that the players I mentioned above would never come here, but I hope this clears up what I'm trying to say.

When the MLS first started, each team had one aged star on their squad to get ppl into the stands ie. DC United had Etchevery, Tampa had Valderrama, I think NY/NJ had Stoichkov.  Big named players passed their prime, playing in the MLS for an extra buck, but also to put butts in the stadium seats.

Remember, MLSE is a money making machine, and they know that they will need to spend a little of $$$ now, to see this franchise grow, and become a success.  They want ppl in the stands, they won't make an investment into something they won't push for.

All past their prime over paid players.

Belfour and Joseph are the only two that you mentioned....and contributed to the club for an extended period of time.

The city of T.O. has to show that soccer does matter, if MLSE gets a strong response from fans, then they will ensure that it grows, and they know that they need to buy a big name, in order to draw more attention to the team.  Besides, what else is there to do in the summer time.  For those who are not baseball fanatics, and would only go to a blue jay game once in a while... Now they have another option.  And with the large amount of landed immigrants that reside in TO, there should be a strong support base for the team.

@ Marky Mark; you are right, the kids in this city will have something to strive for now.  Before, all kids would do is pay some coaches who had small conections for try outs, or try to get scholarships to the states.  Now we can develop home grown talent, and help progress Canada as a soccer nation.

We had back to back World Championships in baseball.

From 1996 to 1997 we had the best quarterback in the CFL, arguably the best CFL team...winning back to back championships.

Now you tell me......how many kids do you see playing american football and baseball on the streets??? Striving to be the next Doug Flutie or Joe Carter...

And if you think that MLSE will be bringing BIG TIME players here to play soccer......you're terribly mistaken. If they don't even do it for HOCKEY.....what makes you think they'll do it for soccer?!?!?!?

With Maple Leaf Sport Entertainment financially backing this MLS team, there will be good chances that it will be successful. They'll need to sign some big name players, at the end of their careers (like the MLS did when it first started).  The names will bring in a good crowd, and since this city is so divers, Europeans, Latin Americans, thier will be solid support for this team.

Toronto FC GOOD LUCK

I think.

Fine!

It's here.

I'll deal with it.

I'll go to the damn games to support it.

Wanna come with me? Miguel, god del foro....wanna come?

We'll try to sit with the rest of the foro soccer supporters if they allow us "non-supporters" to sit with them.

As for the kids.....You create your own dreams...and have the power to create your own avenues to persue them....no matter what!

You should read my thread.

I had people down my throat....saying that they would undoubtedly support pro soccer.....about time....finally....ra ra ra......bla bla bla....

And Now?!?!?

What??

Did they swallow their tongues? Cut their fingers so they can't type???

I even asked people if they had ever seen the Toronto Lynx play.

Some had....once in a blue moon. But I'm sure they'll go more often....now that all their tax money went into building a new stadium to bring in a new team. For sure. That will make them go!!!!

YOu know what's funny.

All those who supported the stadium build on my thread....and wanted pro soccer here soooooooooooo badly.....'cause they'd go watch it.....

NONE OF THEM
have said a peep about the new team here in Toronto.

They must all be in line getting their season tickets.

right?!?!??

Point taken Bainaman. And thank you for not DARTing me. Next time don't make your threads obscure in the titles!!!!!

But now it's beyond caring. It's here. The question now is who will support it?

Eventually it will go private like any big business (or failing business for that matter), so I think now that it's here, we should give it a chance.

Personally I find baseball more exciting than soccer, and that says a lot

But if Toronto can be represented in another pro league on an international level, I think it's worth a shot.

That's my

Now fakk off!!!

So Toronto has a Pro Soccer Club now?

Toronto FC

Anyone follow? Anyone care?

I think any pro sports team will help the city and give encouragement and hope to all the youngsters who love to play the game.
