Chilenita actually, ur not lost...i kinda got carried away with wat i was remembering from the book that i forgot to say Mexicans are stereotyped into being the catchphrase of Latin culture. Why? Most likely because they have a longer attachment to the U.S., closer neighbours, significant population, and they are generally perceived as the 'other'. Media representations of them promote a certain stereotype that is widely repeated and recycled.
I am not Mexican so I do not feel threatened by the representations. I am Indian, and that should tell u something else...i'm no stranger to crass sterotypes. Hell I make fun of the accent too! Russell Peters can make fun of Indian people, but like u said, Seinfeld would get in deep doo doo if he tried it.
does that make more sense or have i confused u more?

Okay wait a sec I totally agree with you two but I thought she was asking why they get made fun of not why there are so many latinos tv shows and that sort of thing?
Am I lost...there is a strong possiblility that I am

ohhh ok. yeah I kinda figured it was that due to the fact that a lot of Mexicans live in the U.S. ..... But do you all like the fact that they're the ones always getting made fun of?? Or you don't care? lol :P
FRESH it's been a very long time since I have seen a Mexican being made fun of on T.V by anyone other than another Mexican....it's just notas acceptable as it used to be...
For example.....On Saturday Night Live they have this skit that makes fun of lainto soap operas (there is plenty to make fun of) and it's soooooooo funny BUT the main characters that do these skits are the latino SNL cast members like Horatio Sanz and that other spanish dude not sure what his name is....that makes it okay. So like if Paul Rodriguez makes fun of latinos in his stand up routine nobody cares cuz it's Paul Rodriguez and he is allowed to make fun of his own people. If it's Chris Rock then latinos don't usually mind because he is black and he makes fun of his own people BUT...BIG BUT if let's say Sienfeld makes fun of latinos he better never perform in New York again cuz they will kill him...get it...he is too white. Not too long ago Howard Stern said something about Puerto Ricans and they nearly lynched him....anyhow I think that's how it works just like white comedians can't make fun of African Americans......
Okay I forgot my point!! Oh yeah white dudes on T.V can't make fun of Mexicans in the States and get away with it anymore....at least I don't think they can....

MM just gave you the definition kind of thing but there is much more behind it than being the 2d generation mexicans living in the US, actually being the 1st born there.
You would really have to see it to understand it, of course some previous knowledge of the Mexican culture and the way of like back home will be a + for that.
You can Google it for some more info but I doubt that you will find the 2 faces of the coin.
BTW is "chicanos". of course not the terminology itself but more likely what it represent, specific to Mexican ? I mean, in the US.
Back home, our "chicanos" will be the 1st born generation, of kids from pple that had came from Algeria, mostly. And from what I've seen and heard about Chicanos, they are really in the same mold. Not always easy for some when they really want to move forward.

like i said i don't think they are making fun of them but using them to refer to a spanish speaking person, Americans need everything fed to them, most of them don't even know where they area standing :S.

Orale homess you are learning eesaay!!! Vato waa elsse shu got mang!
American TV have always portray all spanish speaking people as Mexicans i guess because soooooooo many of them live there, and as u know Canada is all about American shows....
and we are not making fun of them but i guess "Mexicans" are used to let others know that we are talking about a spanish speaking person.
Ok, no disrespect to ANYONE who's Mexican but I was wondering if you all can explain something to me....
Why is it that like on t.v., in the movies, comedians, even everyday people are always cracking jokes about Mexicans? Why do people always make fun of them? Are they the so-called "outcasts" in the latin community <---I dont' know how else to say it ??????
