my VP likes to put it this way (25 years @ ibm , vice president there):
Success is collective and starts at the bottom, if your people don't succeed, you don't succeed.

Thanks... I don't want any Aliens brought to me please. Just like you said Baina, I think I belong to those who were put in a situation where they HAD TO lead (me coming to Canada by myself). I also think being the older brother, and actually caring about the influence you make on your younger sibling makes you a leader intrinsically. To answer Zapato's question, I think a leader is made of many different characteristics, and I seriously believe that being CRITICAL OF EVERYTHING is a fundamental one to create your own path. By "critical" I don't mean going around b!tching at everything, but to take everything and process it, and reach to an OWN OPINION....and be nice to people.

I have never claimed otherwise so SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE meeeeeeeeeeeee, you winner of Julie's stupid f@cker poll.
I guess to each there own on what you consider a follower or a leader!
Im inbetween still working for the man 9-5 and have two business ventures running at the same time! also one of the business ventures my cleaning company has been a push from orale its our joint baby! the other one is soley my own and i know i will succeed! So im mean i do believe i am a follower at times when ppl say lets go here or do this sure why not! as for ideas nope i have my own.
I think a leader would be the person who beleives on his/her ideas and work hard until they become reality,. even if they fall .they stand up and keep trying,. They follow their own thoughts, fellings and beliefs,. It s not what is IN, it is what they like,..
A follower would be the person who doesn't trust on his/herself,. it s always trying to go on the path that is already there,. the easiest or safest way to get where everyone else is,..
This is in every aspect of life,. work,.personal life,.etc,..
It is true that at work u have to do what ur boss wants,. but i think even there u can see if a person is a leader or a follower,. because even when is something already established to get ur work done,. if u r a leader ur gonna find a way of improving that ,. on the other hand a follower will be in the same methodology until he/she gets retire,..
I like the clean lines of Ikea, and yes, a lot of the stuff is built for style not comfort, hell, I even like assembling the stuff (until i get pissed off and want to throw the sh*t out the window). anyway, what were we talking about oh gracious leader?
I never went through an Ikea phase. I went from "can I have that chair if you're not using it?" to Leon's. I find Ikea furniture so uncomfortable, more for yuppies; plus they make you put it together yourself! The nerve! I shop for comfort.
I don't knowabout seating but i can tell you that the closet are very practicle. I did not have another choice than IKEA because budget was tinnyyyyyyyyyy and this was the most affordable.
And I have to admit that I usually like expensive furniture, mostly because of the style (Art Deco, Antiques, Cottage :notsureifitistherightword:, Contemporain, Asian.....) and you can't find good pieces anywehere.

hahahaha!!! fakka!!! True! but not the furniture!... and even then, it's hard for me to even afford my OWN stuff, not to mention it's almost impossible to afford investing time into my own pieces And nothing wrong with Ikea, I actually love it, it's not bad value for your buck, specially if you tend to be slightly trendy at home, it's a great compromise I'm just saying it's not great quality, but you get what you pay for, nothing wrong with that

IKEA is great when budget is low and you're starting but after that, you will surelly little by little take another path. That being said, I can't wait to get ride of my IKEA furniture and go for something real !!!!!! I hope that will happen soon.

I'm usually not a follower, but there are times I have been due to work. There are times you have to go with the flow on things even you don't agree about to keep your job or make the boss happy. Socially though I am not a follower and I have never given into peer pressure.
That can be said of anything that's produced en masse. But I believe there are cycles. Sometimes people want to buy what everyone has (Ikea, et al) and sometimes people will pay to be different. We're probably going throught he Ikea cycle right now. It's scary to think the younger gen is not learning craftsmanship, being for furniture or for anything. I think that'll be a really profitable skill to have downt he road, but it's probably all in the marketing, no? Or maybe not. What do I know? I'm a follower!
Cycles it is ! I've know IKEA forever and I can tell you that I am surprised it is just "booming" here now but it won't last, well I hope. Because thereis much more ut there than IKEA.
Plus I think that once you reach a certain time in you're life, IKEA, well "bien gracias" you want something more. IKEA is great when budget is low and you're starting but after that, you will surelly little by little take another path.
That being said, I can't wait to get ride of my IKEA furniture and go for something real !!!!!! I hope that will happen soon.

Let me throw this at you all... is there anything WRONG with being a follower? What if that's your lot in life? If you believe in past lives, then maybe the followers of today were actually great leaders in the past and vice versa? We're all just completing a circle here. Ok, back to work, but I'm enjoying this thread... I'm such a follower
I agree with you 100%. Sometimes I think that even if I had the qualifications for it, I wouldn't want to be a leader, 'cause it's probably so exhausting, people are so ungrateful and if you Fuck up, people will have only YOU to blame you for it. So it's better to just sit back, relax and let someone else get in trouble. Oh, and laugh at them.

Well I think that pple are still appreciating it but many never got a chance to get close to it and have a chance to "compare" (can't find the word I want to use) "great craftmanship and Ikea" as you mentioned.
I am hoping that by getting more pple from Europe, that usually know about it, because of the heritage, the art will be "re-discovered" and given un segundo aire. Does all those new shows of decoration and more are helping ?

There is NOTHING wrong with being a follower actually....except when the "copycat" the person following you and only you, copies everything you are doing, taking a bit of your creative originality away.....
Then there are the Leaders who should not be leading....like Hitler for example....lol

I think you're wrong in that one: working for someone has nothing to do with being a leader or a follower. Even if you have your own biz, you still work for your customers. In fact, if I have it correctly, in business the customer is king, isn't it? Sometimes you have to aim at completely satisfying the customer, even if it means losing a little integrity, no? Anyway, I still believe some people are leaders even if they are part of the work force. You just have to show up late, not do any work (i.e. be on Foro all day) and get fired a lot.
I think you misread my post or i wasn't clear, I was using contradiction as an example.
Sometimes people out of necessity...are thrust into situations where they HAVE TO lead.....and after....realize that they have the capability to do so.....where otherwise....they would have never known......
Also...
More specifically....I think people are best suited to lead at things that they KNOW!!! Like fully know.......
I'm not necessarily a leader when it comes so social life........I've been called a snob, antisocial, etc........But when it comes to music.....the performance aspect of it......I would always find myself in situations that called for immidiate action....on stage.....and I would just do it.....like it came naturally......because I KNEW exactly what to do............I don't know if that makes sence.....but oh well.......it's not like I'm leading anyone here!

Not to diss Daeveed, but he works for someone, so he's not a leader in that respecct. So working for someone is not necessarily being a follower especially if its out of necessity. Everyone answers to someone; clerks answer to managers who answer to directors who answer to CEO's who then have to answer to the shareholders... which can be average schmoes like u and I. I need to think about this a little more.

I meant Daveed being a leader as a person not an employee....

I agree with you here. That's why sometimes we need a kick in the butt.
I am pretty sure that we all know how and when to be a leader or a follower, which is probably the good balance because being one or the other all the time can be boring, annoying ..... for one and the pple around you.
but anyway, I am to shy to know abut that
