11:00 am - 12:30 pm PANEL: You Can't "Have To Have It" If You Don't Know It Exists - Why Marketing and Promotions Can Make or Break A Release We've all seen it happen one too many times - a promising act gets signed by a label, receives a recording budget, and puts out a brilliant album...however more often than not, the "brilliant" album falls flat. Having a successful release is dependent upon much more than just making great music. It's the crucial decisions (many of them marketing) that are made before, during and after the completion of the album that determine whether it will soar or flat-line. How sponsorships, retail and marketing plans, touring, and publicity impact an album's success.

With numerous stations flipping to the Hurban format in the past 6 months, countless Hurban acts touring across the US, and artists like Daddy Yankee's Barrio Fino going platinum, selling over 1 million units - it's easy to say that 2005 was the year the sleeping giant we now call Hurban music, made it's grand entrance.

“LAMC is to Latin alternative the way the Sundance Film Festival is to indie movies.” -ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
“As far as the cutting-edge curators of the Latin Alternative Music Conference are concerned, reggaeton was so five years ago. Way back during LAMC's inaugural 2000 event, they introduced stateside music fans to the then-untapped Puerto Rican dance beat….For the next four days, the savvy shot-callers offer an impressive roster of Spanish-language acts at the LAMC.” -NY DAILY NEWS
“Since it began in 2000, the LAMC has been rallying the musicians and business people seeking to promote innovative music - rock, pop, electronica and hip-hop merged with local traditions. It has placed its hopes on the quality of the music, in the mainstream acceptance of Latin hybrids by hitmakers like Shakira, and in the inevitability of demographic changes that are creating a young, bilingual audience.” - NEW YORK TIMES
"The LAMC has emerged as the top showcase for up-and-coming Latin acts." -ASSOCIATED PRESS
With a warm welcome from the Big Apple, the biggest event in the world for alternative Latin music will return to New York August 2nd - 5th. Featuring leading artists as well as many of the music industry’s most prominent decision-makers, the seventh annual LAMC’s daytime events will once again be held at Manhattan’s Puck Building in SoHo.
Among the events planned for LAMC 2006 are free concerts at Central Park Summerstage, Celebrate Brooklyn Festival at the Prospect Park Bandshell, and Museo del Barrio, as well as numerous showcases and industry panels for LAMC registrants.
