It does say "several hundred people" were pushing, I doubt very much you could get "several hundred people" BEHIND a train car, they were probably all pushing from behind AND the sides and slipped under, and how do you stop something so massive Nonetheless, what a sad story

Even with good purposes in mind and heart, having people push a train is plain stupid. Trains are NOT designed to be pushed. Nor are tracks designed to have anything "pushed" on.
Poor fellas.
Now all you reality shows addicts out there know! It KILLS, mang!
MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay -- Seven residents of a Uruguayan town were killed Friday when they were run over by a train they were pushing as part of a reality television show aimed at raising funds for a local hospital.
Several hundred people from Young, about 380 km west of the capital, Montevideo, were pushing a locomotive and two railcars when some participants fell under the train.
Several others were hurt, three of them critically.
The residents were taking part in the program Desafio al Corazon (A Challenge to the Heart), in which Uruguayans raise funds for charities by completing difficult tasks, in this case pushing a train down railway tracks.
"Channel 10 offers its solidarity and support to the families involved in this unexpected tragedy," a spokesman said.
