Romantica de los 60's - 70's - Los Galos, Los Golpes, Los Angeles Negros, Los Terricolas, Los Pasteles Verdes, Manolo Galvan, Rafael, Leonardo Favio, Leo Dan.......  My list for this never ends.

After reading this thread....and being a music lover myself I have to point out some stuff......

I'm a big fan of Rigatoni AKA Reggaeton.....LOL......I also equally love Latin Rock & Pop as much as Romantic Classical Salsa.....followed by Bachata and Baladas....

If it's a question of who's known the genre longer (ehem Danny ehem) LOL.....none of us have.....just like you have been listening to Reggaeton/Latin Reggae since the 90's....Ricky has been playing and listening to ALL music since the 70's and Phanta with Hip Hop since it came out.....so each of you are big supporters and lovers of your own genres....but facts are facts!!!

EX: I had a picture of Daddy Yankee as my MSN avatar 5 or 6 years ago and people would ask me who that was.....of course I would say "my boyfriend" LOL and people would believe it and when I told them the truth they still didn't grasp that he was a REGGAETON artist.....(a few foro people including Genie and Eddie Sabor Nuevo can vouch for this).....I was the first person in my circle of friends to OBSESS over this genre and slowly get them hooked, of course with the help of the "explotion".....I loved the genre and I just so happened to be exposed to it before the actual "explotion".....that doesn't make me the BIGGEST FAN or the most knowledgeable......

We all knew EL GENERAL from way back when right?....so does this mean we know more about Spanish Reggae than the next guy who is just discovering the difference between LATIN REGGAE & RIGATONI now?  (ehem Dogo ehem) LOL

Both Daddy Yankee & Don Omar perform with a full out LIVE band while on tour....EX: Don Omar the Last Don DVD .....but somehow it doesn't sound the same to the average Reggaeton lover.....musicians on the other hand will appreciate it more.....but that's not to say that Reggaeton and Latin Reggae are all just sequences and only use DJ's......because even Luney Tunes use LIVE instruments in their recordings to get a different feel....a more natural sound......EX: Fito Blanko playing with a LIVE band.....sounded great!!

Don't get me started on MARKETING GIMMICKS.....because then I will be forced out to point out all the Salseros, Merengueros, Bachateros....who will pay whatever price to have a Reggaetonero featured on one of their tracks....

As far as "mixing" HIP HOP Culture with Reggaeton...hmmm.....It is a thin line to cross.....especially when you have THE SOURCE Magazine now featuring LATINO acts.....where 99% are Reggaeton artists, promoters, DJ's, producers....all featured side by side with Hip Hop acts, producers, fashion designers, promoters.....etc......Also, Reggaetoneros have looked up to HIP HOP LEGENDS even before they started reggaetoniando....LOL....

All I'm saying is RESPECT MUSIC!  RESPECT THE ART!

If you don't like it, have not reasearched it...don't diss it because you will come out as the ignorant party.....EX: I don't like all Merengue....but I'm also not going to state that Salsa is better....to each his own!

Its derived from reggae en esp, otherwise these dudes might start claiming Los Pericos and King Chango as so called reggaeton artists too...

OMG I know you didnt just compare HIP HOP to that musical cacophony you call reggaeton. For starters Hip Hop is an entire culture. Reggaeton is a flash in the pan gendre of music derived from Reggae in spanish. Even reggaetoneros themselves admit reggaeton is not Hip Hop and I know u know this cause all u fanboys have seen the Chosen Few documentary.

Hip Hop beats have evolved into a complex combination of samples and live instruments. How dare you drag Nas' name into this mess.. and by the way I have heard Vico Freestyling and Tego and Residente and a bunch of others and the reason why they can do this is because they are MC's that throw down over reggaeton Beats for the most part cause thats what sells right now. All of them have said that what they are is rappers that rap over "the" reggaeton beat.

Anyways dude, u like what you like and I may not like it, but please, PLEASE dont ever drag the name of Hip Hop music down anywhere near reggaeton and may Big L. Biggie and Tupac in thug heaven up above grant u some clearmindedness to know the difference.

** note to all non Hip Hop people: that stuff they play on z103 and like 75% of what they play on flow aint hip hop either.

Thanks.

I'm sorry vato...it doesn't appease to me. Being a musician, reggaeton lacks too much of the live element of musicianship. That's the best I can say.... I know so many are proud of reggaeton and how it's part of the latino culture now and something to call your own, but don't get me wrong I like a couple songs. Just the whole genre hasn't convinced me of true musicianship like a genre like Jazz would. If I could see a reggaton concert without it being kareoke style, then I can relate to it more. But I can't relate to it...

well you see...first off reggaeton/latin hiphop and hiphop itself  are totaly different genres then rock, jazz , salsa etc..completley different...So maybe it seems that rock and jazz have better live elements of musicianships..but to eaches own..that doesnt mean reggaeton/hiphop cant hold their own down. Hiphop is about lyrics ..putting together a message, flow, delivery . Have you ever seen a live nas concert? have u ever seen daddy yankee or vico c freestyling on a mic live?..trust me these artists dont just sing for the hell of it bro, they have mad talent check out some tego calderon listen to some old yankee tracks ..trust me reggaeton aint all about ass shaking , god theres more talented reggaeton artists out there..zion y lennox, eddie dee, rakim y ken y,  ...the list goes on

My point here is that to say a musical genre is repetitive is just to broad..if you are not well educated about the genre or at least gave it a chance and listen to it more, then ur comments sound weak.

heck i dont really like salsa, bachata but i dont say its repetitive or it sucks...i have no comment on it , maybe if i gave it a chance then il have a constructive opinion on it..but mehhhhh im happy with with latinhiphop and reggaeton;P thats all i need
