At home
drawing pictures
of mountain tops
with him on top
lemon yellow sun
arms raised in a V
and the dead lay in pools of maroon below

Daddy didn’t give attention
to the fact
that mommy didn’t care
King Jeremy the wicked
ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today

Clearly i remember
picking on the boy
seemed a harmless little ****
but we unleashed a lion
gnashed his teeth and
bit the recess ladies breast
how could i forget?
and he hit me with a surprise left
my jaw left hurting
dropped wide open
just like the day
like the day i heard

Daddy didn’t give affection
and the boy was something
that mommy wouldn’t wear
King Jeremy the wicked
ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today

Try to forget this
try to erase this
from the black board

I used to really like this song....

....back in my rocker years!!!

You know what, it's interesting you ask this. I think people in north american have a lot more inner issues to deal with, as opposed to kids in our countries, who have other things to deal with (extreme poverty, diseases, wars, etc). I don't remember bullying being a major cause of concern back home, but then again, there were bullets flying left right and centre, so I don't think someone pulling my hair would've been major. But I agree with you: maybe it happens more here because parents are more disconnected to the kids, maybe because class-wise, kids are pretty much all the same and the differences come in personality or physical attributes, or even race. I think I'd like to watch that show you mentioned, Baina.

@ Guada: I've heard that song many times and watched the video and never put too much attention to it. I didn't know it was about bullying.

I can't even imagine the emotional scarring that this type of extreme bullying...must leave on someone.

"Jeremy spoke in class today" are part of the lyrics. It's a very sand song, and a reality check of how damaging this issue can be.   I remenber this song it was in the early 90's it was a good song it dealt with alot of issue This song was about that boy (Jeremy Wade Dalle) who was 16 from Richardson Texas.

That's kinda like me.  In my school everyone basically hung out with their own kind latinos with latinos, polish with poslish, blacks with blacks, and some small groups that were mixed.  I hung out with the mixed groups, but most of them were black and white.  I was the only Latina in my crew.  I tried making friends with the Latinos in the school, but they all acted like snobs towards me.  I remember that one of them said that they didn't like Latinos who knew how to speak Spanish, but spoke more English, and who spoke English with other Latinos instead of speaking Spanish. I guess it was because when one of them talked to me in Spanish I answered her in English.  She's like why do you speak to me in English and not Spanish?  I was like because I'm used to speaking in English more.  I mean I did come to Canada when I just turned 3, so I never went to school in Guatemala.  I started school here, so what did they expect.  I can speak, read, and write in Spanish fine, but I am used to doing all these things in English more than I am in Spanish.  This is what I don't get why some Latinos act this way?  I mean the vibe that I got from them was that they thought that they were better than me, because I didn't Speak Spanish as much as they did.  It's just stupid if you ask me.

I didn't do my high school here,.. but I am aware of the bullying situation in elementary and high schools,... it is true that u have to stick in a group to not be bullied ,... as some of u said this starts from home,. parents need to pay more attention to their kids from a young age,.. and teach them respect,..

Gangs are a problem as well but there are always going to exist,..

In Ecuador as LG said is different ,. but there is also bullying problems,..economic class,..good students,. (here nerds),.. etc,.. but the teachers are taugher,. u need to follow rules,. well in certain schools,.. o si no te arreglas en la calle,..

I think it was the one time where I was truly ashamed of being hispanic.

That's pretty sad girl!   And I know many people who have the same story as you.....

Ummm, this is so sad to hear but I think it always happened but not to the extreme...I was a MAJOR bully in highschool and noone messed with me and then I woke up ... No I wasn't a bully, never could be and I hung out with everyone … But highschools are tougher than before, and the kids get away with more than before although I think order is trying to be placed again with that whole issue that happened with the 14 highschool students (all black) charged by one white female student with sexual harrasment … Not sure how the whole story ended? Gonna ask my cousins who attend the school.

Luckily for me when someone tried to bully me I had friends that would have my back...Porque para pelear yo nada que ver LOL! Para insultos peor … I can't talk back de la misma forma aveces nomas me ponia a reir 'cause I didn't understand

Bulling in highschools is not just interracial of course – I have a black female coworker who some other black girls tried to bully – because of jealousy.  This girl is pretty and got T&A so she got lots of attention from the boys – so the others got jealous and wanted to beat her up  - good thing she’s a tough cookie and could stand up and take care of herself and no physical damage was ever done to her…

With guys and gangs nowadays, I am glad I am not in highschool… in the good old days specially back home, it was just great to take it to the park, school mates cheering their friends on… a good dance of fists, one on one, no hitting while on the ground, first guy to get a bleeding nose loses… end of fight shake hands and do it all over next time!

Now I wish I was back in highschool – just not in today’s world! LOL

Well it's just different.  Here in Canada you could be considerd cool by the other kids for a bunch of different reasons like...you are hot....you are great at sports.....you have the best clothes....the list goes on....

In Chile from what I have seen money has alot to do with your coolness....is it like that in Mexico?  Like the judge you based more on status....

I never went to school here. Bullying isn't really a problem in Mexico or if it is, I was oblivious to it. In any case, I would never have allowed anyone to bully me.

Wow...bullying still present in schools?????

Teachers, principals, even the School Board should start doing something about it... They don't go through the pain and sometimes humiliation the kids do!!!

The behaviour kids have at school start at home with the parents... they should be the ones teaching them how to treat others and how to stand up for themselves...

This is sad.

I think it leaves an emotional scar on kids that have experienced bulling to an extreme level. Well....actually....I guess it can go both ways......either the lose more confidence and self esteem.....or they get stronger and if they stand up for themselves......

Regardless....

I think teachers should be allowed to go back to the good ol' days.....and be able to beat the kids!!!! LOL Nothings BEATS when a teacher/parent says: "DO AS I SAY...NOT AS I DO!"

I think teachers should start paying more attention to this problem instead of thinking 'the kids will get along'.

They need to keep a close eye on the kid causing the problem/bullying. They need to notify the parent and the parent MUST step up and discipline the kid.

While i hope the girl who was being tormented feels better/safer now, it's just damaging to her overall self-esteem. And i can't believe they were ONLY expelled when the principal was threatened, what did they think the girl was going through before that?

Bullying needs to be stopped, it starts at home, and parents need to get involved, they can't always expect the teacher to do everything.
