Neruda....keep me posted on these plays...I know I am not Chilean, but I would love to go out and educate my mind and not just sit in front of the tube!!!....plus it gives one a chance to dicuss what one got from the whole experience....
Speaking of small production latino based plays that needed more recognition, A couple of years ago I saw a wonderful play called"Chile con Carne".It about a little chilean girl growing up in exile here having a really hard time coming to terms with her identity. It really struck a chord with me. (So much that it was one of the few times that I actually shed tears in public!). It was realling touching and speaks to anyone who was forced to leave their country because of political reasons, not just chileans. Has anyone else seen it? I hope it comes back.
Don't think it will come back
The girl (Mari lo Nunez) who played the main character is a very close friend of the family and she is fantastic!! Her production company made this play happen here and I don't think she will do it again although I agree it was wonderful!!! She is very talented and the lady who wrote that play is terrific! She actually made a really great short documentary called....ugh....damn I forgot the name but it's about the tradition of making empanadas - VERY CUTE and worth watching. She has done a bunch of stuff I will see if I can post the production company website on here....I think it was called two devils or something like that.

One of the reasons I went to see it was because I like the female lead (Cara Pfiko -she's also stars in the CBC series "this is Wonderland) . I hadn't known that there was gay overtones. If you can get over that it's actually a good play. It has some traditional chilean music as well. BTW Atom Egoyan (I'm a fan of his work)was in the audience and sat in front of me.
