So what genre of music is Fideo Blanko in? Is he a rapper, a reggae artist, a reggaeton artist? Does he sing salsa or Bachata? Is he in control of his career or is his management playing him like a puppet and putting him in the genre that is currently hot?If so will he be singing Soka music if it ever blows up in Canada like it is in Jamaica?
As far as Reggaeton "dying" (meaning less and less Air/Play time) than before.........this is what I think: It has stabilized itself and it's no longer considered Underground like before....you can now actually go to a music store and even buy music online....as opposed to before you had to do some online research, download or even get someone in PR to send you some stuff.....LOL...(speaking from experience) ....not to mention that most of those albums were collabs. Clubs, Radios, no longer need to over play this genre massively all night to get people hooked on it.....the market has been established.....it is now an official Genre at any awards show as well as a Record Pool....."se calmo un poquito el hambre" Somewhere in there, during the night, a DJ will play a reggaeton set, because it is now part of the "Latin Music Industry"......ya tiene un lugar establecido....and people will request it and demand it.....ESPECIALLY because it's so danceable..... What sucks though, is how Latin Reggae, primarily from Panama has not exploded YET the way reggaeton has (not counting el famoso General of course)......I was always a fan of Boricua reggaeton, but I have my Latin Reggae favorites..... Since someone decided to bring Fito up....here it goes..... He is not a Reggaeton artist......now if people confused his style with the sudden explosion of the genre, that's either their ignorance, OR the intelligence of his marketing department that let it happen....Not one of his songs has the typical "reggaeton" TRA TRA TRA rhythm.......He was just placed in the incorrect, yet similar genre, just like a product. So.....Reggaeton has not died...it's only improving, becoming a business, a lifestyle, a role modle for latin urban youth......Reggaeton artists are finding that they too can charge the $$$$ that other genre artists are charging, and they are milking the popularity ("explosion") of their style! Bizz is Bizz!

I love some of the TRUE reggeatoneros... ie. Tego. Say what you want about this mans looks, but his lyrics are wicked! And his flow is right on track too.
I dont necessarily like the 'followers'.. the ones that try to imitate the big dawgs of reggaeton.
But Im sure that Tego could put on a wicked performance

True. I don't think the Foro would have that big of an impact to kill Fitos popularity or Reggaetons popularity. I personally feel that people in Toronto(spanish ppl) are more into traditional music in the clubs like salsa, bachata, merengue and so on. I don't mind reggaeton, I actually love a few songs, but I would prefer the other genres. Especially when you compare the quality of a live perfomance between a real band or group of musicians compared to reggaeton artists.
Yup Torontos latin scene is more of a salsa merengue bachata thing..totaly agreed
and alot of reggaeton artists r amazing on stage too, u just havent seen enough:p

aww rigatoni, I love to dance to it. No, its not dieing, I don’t think so. They play it a lot and always in other clubs/places too (other than latin spots).

thats right
baina is just hating cuz u dont see any panamenian reggae artists on top :p:biggrin:
spanish reggae from panama is just a spin off of jamaican reggae..same beats almost, u even had guys like el general and nando boom rhyming over jamaican beats. but i still like it to bad it doesnt get enough exposure
I hope brocali can change the game !!!!!

IMO what killed reggaeton here was the lack of knowledge from the DJ's on the genre....u always got the same songs over and over again and again anywhere u went, if u keep on doing that people are just going to get sick......to tell u the truth the best reggaeton set i ever heard was at Fluid on a Thrus night and that was even before it got sooooooo big here in T.O.

I'm talking about being out in the industry longer, I know bachata has been part of the pueblos longer but thats a whole diff thread.

Comon haters....show some love, just cause its doing better then bachata salsa or merengue..doesnt mean yall should hate hahaha:p see for urselves the stats dont lie http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/chart_display.jsp?g=Singles&f=Hot+Latin+Songs http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/chart_display.jsp?g=Albums&f=Top+Latin+Albums
That's right. It's not dead. It's just not as popular anymore....in T.O that is. It's big in Montreal and SOME parts of the states. Mainly NYC and Miama.
So every other state and province is not really feeling it. Does that make them/us smart or dumb music listeners?
