Vancouver just misses rain record Jan. 16, 2006. 03:09 PM CANADIAN PRESS
VANCOUVER — Soggy West Coasters are usually pleading for the rain to go away.
But there was a bit of disappointment when it did go away after 27 consecutive days of rain — one day short of equalling a 53-year-old record.
Environment Canada says no measurable amount of rain was recorded yesterday on the official rain gauge at the Vancouver airport weather office in Richmond.
At least two-tenths of a millimetre of rain would have had to fall to make it count.
Meteorologist Brian Robilliard was among those rooting for the rain but the dark clouds hovering over the region failed to co-operate.
The relentless rain began to ease on Friday, allowing officials to end a landslide alert for about 300 mountainside homes in North Vancouver.
