I didnt give anything away, I just simply stated my dislike for the book. Nothing more. The parts that I described happened within the first couple chapter, so nothing that you didnt already know.

JACINTA is a home wrecker! MAGDA'S character i like! ELENA should just forgive and forget after like 12 yrs of bitterness! CECILIA is a B*tch!!!!!!! BASILIO is so nice! Ummm, well you get the picture, so far the book is good!! But some disappointments!! ANGELITA should keep quiet until after we have the virtual meeting because TV BUFF will kick her DULCE ass if she keeps giving the characters and plot away.
Well i wanted to give my input on this since now i won't be joining the virtual book club!
PEOPLE..... PEOPLE....... PLEASE MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!! ARE WE GETTING TOGETHER OR NOT??
Someome PM me on this, cause it seems like CHALE described the whole book on this thread and i don't wanna read it till i'm done.
Initially I was really excited to read this book, you know, thinking that it would be true to its Latin American 'origins', and that the characters would be amazingly portrayed and that the story line and plot would produce an amazing and awe-inspiring tale.... But no! I was sadly mistaken.
At the beginning, when we're first introduced to the mother (forget her name) and Jacinta when they came across the dead body, they were both portrayed in a true fashion. Their ideas, the dialog and the way Sandra portrays the predicament that they found themselves in, was done very nicely. Same with the father, although he didnt have a big part in it, Sandra did manage to give him some sort of dimension.
Bacilio was never fully developed as a character I find. What do we really know about him, except that he's in love with someone who doesnt love him back. Thats his whole purpose in the book, to be the sucker who gets screwed at the end.
Now for the rest of book, which I struggled to get through, was just a waste of time and space in the literary world. The tiff between Ceci and Elena needlessly transcended through generations.
I know that Sandra was trying to convey women as strong and independent, but truly all she accomplished was to portray women as catty, selfish homewrecking, grudge holding baby poppers.
I hated this book.
It could have been done so much better. I found it a total waste of my time to read!
Oh yah, and the ending?? WTF?!?!? I skipped a few pages here and there and was still able to follow along in the so called plot.
