Fine, I'll go this far: I may or may not be crazy. Is the glass half full or half empty? Hmmmm.

Mtl, forget about finding a family doc, nobody takes new patient and if you think that the wait is long in the wal in clinic or er in TO, well let me tell you then, don't ever get sick in Mtl.

Well, with all those smokers, I can imagine!

Well I have to say that I am not convinced with the medical system either. No no, was not, I found a great family doctor and he is really f/u on me and getting me the appointment needed with specialist, and pretty quickly I have to say.

But neither the less, before him, I got sick few times, here in TO and Mtl.

Here, when I went to the walk in clinic, I was never convinced by the diagnostic of the doctor. Sorry, but I know my body, I mostly sore throat and skin problems (vive le stress , lol) since a very young age so, they can't really BS me.

So when, first of all you have a student that comes around, don't even know what or where to look for and gives you a diagnostic, that you know is not the right one, it make me very unhappy. Then, he/she goes away and come back with the Doc. and then, here you go again trough the same BS to finally hear the doctor said, no, you're wrong, it is this instead of that !

I sware to God that I do miss the over the counter medication that I was able to buy in Mx. Next time I will stock up. I know self medication is not the best thing, but when you are aware of what you are taking, etc.. I don't see the problem. Plus I am not a fanatic of antibiotics and cortizone and it seems to be the only thing that use around here !

So yes, for regular boo-boo I can be my owen doctor because I as well recognize when it is out of my league and that a specialist/profesional opinion is needed !

I'm totally with Jaime on this one.  I dont go to the Drs unless some little home made chicken soup and R&R can't cure it.

Lahtina, I think you know your body more than anyone else.  If you are not satisfied with what your doctor is saying/prescribing it is in your best interest to get a second or even third opinion.

A friend's friend (and I'm not telling this story to scare you) had a baby but was having trouble breast feeding b/c her nipples had sores and her chest was really red (not quite uncommon).  She went to see her DR. and he prescribed some antibotics and told her to get some rest.  She finished taking the meds but her rash and sores were only getting worse! She had a fever and was starting to vomit.  She went back to the same Dr. and he told her she was having a bad reaction to the meds - he prescribed something different.  She wasn't satisfied with his answer and represcription so she went to see another doctor (private doc not covered by medicare) and it turned out she had the Flesh Eating Disease.  Sounds gross I know but if she didn't listen to her body, it would have turned out fatal for her.

I just got back from my second doctor's appointment in less than 24 hours. It's not like I went to get a second opinion either, just that the doctor's first prognosis wasn't good enough for me and, being the stubborn little biatch that I am, I was set on changing his mind. Thing is, I've had this cough for over a week and nothing is making it better. I have a sore throat and chest pain. My throat infections, which usually give way to colds, are generally caused by my acid reflux. In the past I've always had antibiotics to fix the problem.  So yesterday, when the doctor said my cough is due to a postnasal drip and gave me some nose spray I was a bit dissapointed. [Pause] Am I boring you yet? LOL Don't stop reading now, I swear there's a question for you in the near future.[/pause] (no, it's not an html code!) So... I got home and used the infamous nose spray. Did feel better. Come bedtime I remembered the doctor didn't even check for swollen lymphs. Why was my throat aching? I felt a lump, put pressure on it and it sent me into a coughing fit. I noticed a few red specs on the phlegm. Did I say I was feeling better? Yeah, scratch that out, I had a horrible night. This morning I spat up some blood with the phlegm. Throat was all sore and itchy. I needed those antibiotics! After this second appointment, doctor said lymphs are fine and chest seems fine. He gave me my beloved antibiotics. Yes, my drugs, my beautiful drugs! BUT!!! He also ordered a chest X-ray for the blood "spewing". Ok, maybe it wasn't that much blood. So now I'm thinking... Am I one of those crazy psychosomatic people? Or is this something people generally do? When it comes down to your typical illnesses and/or minor injuries, do you know what's best for you or should you always leave it up to the doctor? How many people have thought they were fine and their doc was crazy until it was too late? How many people out there are making their sickness seem worse than it is? Daaaaaghh!  My worst fear* realized!  What do you think about being your own doctor? *Worst fear: Going insane.

I DONT BELIEVE BEING UR OWN DOCTOR IS GOOD CUZ I USED TO READ THOSE MEDICAL BOOKS TO DIAGNOSE MY SELF NEXT THING U KNOW IM DYING OF SOMETHING ONLY FOUND IN ASIA BUT I SWEAR I HAVE IT SO I GO TO THE DOCTOR MAKE HER RUN A BUNCH OF TEST AND THEN JUST LAUGH AT ME SO NO I DONT BELIEVE IN THAT WE SHOULD BE OUR OWN DOCTOR!! LOL LOL

BUT I GO TO A HERBALIST AND ONLY IF IM IN REAL PAIN DO I GO TO A DOCTOR!!

Ummm, WOW!! So after all this how you feeling with the antibiotics???

** I personally feel that if you feel you have something or need something go to another doctor ... I mean u proved it one prescribes you a nose spray and the other antibiotics

I bet if you go to another doctor they will tell u something else ... that's why people have family doctor's and many put their trust in them so whatever they say goes ...

but I think u did the right thing, and no you are not umm what is it called psychosomatic ...
