My church is big and the have mass like 4 times a week with big crowds. What I wonder is what do they REALLY do with the money collected for the Church Fund??You see in 10 years and 4 visits I have only seen 1 change at the church and that is just a stone sculpture that they have at the entrance. No other repairs.

I won't go into detail, but I can tell you that I've experienced the help of the church first-hand, so I can really tell you that money IS spent in a good way. I'm not saying there's no corruption in the church, but there is good there also.

For every Father David....there is a Father Garcia....I think he's at San Juan Bautista. He can give a full mass in about 15 mins.....inclunding communion, peace, etc...the works!! He talks so fast.....And he's funny.

I know! He's funny! I had a fundraiser at his church a few months back and he came over and asked me for a couple of beers (cervezas, with the Spanish accent... cute). He's cool. I have a beef with him, though. He didn't want to marry us because hubby's not catholic. He tried to convert him and we just decided not to get married there.

Eerie, as I was typing this, I got an e-mail inviting me to something happening at San Juan Bautista church. things that make you go...

PERSONALLY I DON'T GO TO CHURCH, I DON'T LIKE IT, I DON'T LEARN ANYTHING, I FEEL WEIRD JUST BEING IN THERE, I FEEL IT'S A WASTE OF MY TIME.....I ALSO STRONGLY FEEL THAT MANY PEOPLE IN THERE ARE BEING HYPOCRATES BY SINNING ALL WEEK AND THEN SAYING "I'M A CHURCH GOER, OR A CHRISTIAN OR WHATEVER".....AS A FORM OF DEFENSE....(NOT EVERYONE)

1 STRONG EXAMPLE OF HYPOCRASY (AND MANY OF YOU WILL JUMP DOWN MY THROAT FOR THIS)....IS WHEN A WOMAN WEARS WHITE TO GET MARRIED AND SHE ALREADY HAS KIDS OR WHATEVER....ISN'T THE WHOOOOLE POINT OF WEARING A WHITE DRESS TO REPRESENT PURITY ........CUZ IF THAT WASN'T THE CASE, THEN WHY CAN'T WE GET MARRIED IN ANY OTHER COLOUR??  ...OR LET ME GUESS, IT'S A FASHION STATEMENT....OR....THE BEST LINE EVER "IT'S TRADITION" LOL

ANYWAY......

MY WHOLE TAKE ON RELIGION IS NOT SO MUCH AS DAEVEED'S WHERE I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A GOD....ETC.....BUT I DO BELIVE IN A HIGHER POWER, WHICH I ALWAYS CONSIDER IT TO BE MY "CONSCIENCE"......NO BIBLE, NO MASS, NO IMAGINARY SYMBOL.....

I THINK YOU SHOULD BE GOOD PERSON ALL THE TIME, ANYWHERE WITH ANYONE WITHOUT ANY RELIGION "PASSING JUDGEMENT/DICTATING ON WHAT'S GOOD OR BAD".....

BEING A GOOD PERSON SHOULD BE THE #1 RELIGION IN THE WORLD!

I COME FROM A FAMILY OF CHURCH GOERS, STRONG BELIEVERS WHO HAVE ALWAYS TRIED TO INSTALL IN ME THE IMPORTANCE OF JESUS, GOD, MARY.....ETC......I DON'T KNOCK THEM FOR IT BUT I WOULD APPRECIATED IF THEY WOULD NOT TRY TO "FORCE" ME TO JOIN THEM IF MY SINCERE BELIEFS ARE NOT PRESENT.....(LIVE AND LET LIVE KINDA THING)

SOME POSITIVE SIDES OF CHURCH GOING AND RELIGION FOLLOWING (I MUST ADMIT) ARE...  THE UNITING OF PEOPLE UNDER ONE ROOF, BEING THERE FOR 1 SOLE PURPOSE.....PEOPLE BEHAVING IN THE CHURCH (NOT SWEARING OR BEING VULGAR LIKE HOW THEY ARE ALL WEEK LONG)....KEEPS THEM IN CHECK!.....(AND THIS IS NOT ALL PEOPLE BTW)......

ONE QUESTION:

FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT CHRISTIAN ON THIS FORO (DAEVEED FOR EXAMPLE)......DO YOU CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS??

Just thought I'd drop a little church humour.

Religiosos

Va un cura corriendo porque lo persigue un león de repente el cura se arrodilla y dice:
Señor, te pido que este león se vuelva cristiano.
El león se arrodilla y dice:
Señor, bendice estos alimentos que voy a consumir.

I'm not here to convert anyone. You all have your opinions based on personal experiences and views. If you don't believe in God or Religion....and you are comfortable in your own skin.......then Great!!!! You have neither gained nor lost anything. But if someone feels the need.....To believe in a greater being....in some form of organized Religion...in order to make some sense of their lives....and try to better themselves as human beings....why do you knock on them??? Do they or their believes harm you in any way??? Now is just about when the "what a bunch of hypocrites they are" argument comes out. Who said that people who go to church are perfect??? Have you not heard that people who feel the need to go to church......do so because they needed it the most??? As in any philosophy....it takes time...sometimes a life time to obey and follow it's teachings. It's a journey...with many obstacles, trials and tribulations......Many fail miserably....many overcome them.......I have personally seen people change drastically.....for the better....by going to church.....that doesn't mean that everyone who goes to church will..... The church does not condone fanaticism. It is very common in Latin American countries to idolize icons or statues of Saints. This is not a good thing.....like the way people were idolizing the golden calf before Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments.....SO all those lady that go to church every day...pray the rosary 1000 times a day......it's almost counter productive for them to do that...... Anyway....   My point is...if you don't believe.....AT LEAST.......Live and let Live

If this was directed to me, then I just need to clarify that my question was a legitimate one, and with no intention of disrespect whatsoever. I just truly find it very weird that people believe in a creator, and I would really like to know where that conviction comes from. I find it very interesting. About my beliefs and theirs, like you said, they're just different, I'm not trying to put anybody down. If you believe, [i think] it better be for a reason, and not just because...

If that wasn't directed at me...then....well....A$$hHOLE!

P.S. i didn't take anything personally....i still love you like always man.

It's like those old ladies that go to church every single day, They must have shiat load of sins or maybe they were some sort of girls gone wild in their good days, to go every single day.

I hardly ever step foot in a church. I'm catholic and all, but I guess not a good one. I can actually count the number of times I've been to church in the last 10 years and that is 4.
2 weddings, my nieces baptism and her communion.

Like Daeveed said God and what he created is strange.
God created us and heaven, but who created God? He had to come from somewhere. He couldn't have created himself. Kind of a strange topic

I understand why people need faith, but too much of something makes you a fanatic and dependant on it. that can never be good no matter what it is religion, sex, alcohol, or drugs.

Scarborough, Ontario, Canada

But the priest can often be found presiding mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Father David = Thumbs Up… long masses, but he knows how to deliver and pass along a message… makes me reflect and think… He never mentions “tanto gastamos en los arreglos de la iglesia… la deuda de la iglesia es tanto » - ETC… Father Garcia (yes, at SJB can deliver a quick mass, but half the time he’s talking about gastos y deudas de la igleasia) He does deliver a good joke every now and again; but that is not what one goes to church for… that’s what YUK YUKs is for…

I preffer father David’s mass over Father Garcia!

I hear ya!

I'd rather hear Father David anyday over Father Garcia.......For the same reasons you mentioned........Father Garcia is good once in a while....for a change.....lol....

You should hear Father Hector.......He's the Rector at the Redemptoris Mater Seminary..........Now he knows how to give a homily that will make you think.

Padre David, if anything, will put you to sleep. No offense, but he's really boring. And his masses are marathons. I was godmother to my nephew for his baptism, and P. David officiated the mass. It was summer and mass lasted for about 3 and a half hours. Insane!!! Depends on how you look at it..... His masses are marathons because he tries to get deep into the readings..... The problem is when he goes on on a tangent....and then on another one.....and so on and so forth....... Humans by nature have a limited amount of attention span.....so yeah......I think everyone tunes him out after a bit....and he defeats his own purpose.... I used to sing at his masses.....and the only thing that kept me awake was playing guitar and looking at the next songs coming up..... For every Father David....there is a Father Garcia....I think he's at San Juan Bautista. He can give a full mass in about 15 mins.....inclunding communion, peace, etc...the works!! He talks so fast.....And he's funny.

Ummm, I like spanish masses more than english though ... i find them more warm and alive ... I go to english mass though because well ummm it's short and sweet ... I've been to Guadalupe's and I enjoyed it there and yes el Padre does go off on his tangents ... But there is a new Padre at St. Jude ... Padre Efrain he seems cool, so maybe I will go to the 12:30 mass one day ... to see how it is

I do like los cermones del padre David (Guadalupe church) – everytime that I go there, he does mass for at least an hour and a half, but I don’t even feel the time cause he delivers the mass/cermon very well… and at the end of the mass, me deja pensativo, me hace reflexionar, pienso on how I could de better, be a better servant of God, etc…
