According to the "Popol Vuh" ( the mayan bible) we are descendent of the four hijos del maiz: Balam kitze, balam Acab, Tepeu y Cocomatz.

That's why we are into corn, our sacred food which nowadays feeds millions around the globe. It is harvested in Africa, the middle east and other places.

I guess in Nicaragua the equivalent of your tamales would be our nacatamales, which by the way, is also a tradition to have for Xmas. I think they're a little bigger than your tamales (I've never had salvadoran or guatemalan tamales), and they have rice, potatoes, tomatoes and pork or chicken). Ask any nicaraguan, they're delicious, especially for breakfast. We also have something that I haven't seen since I've been here, called Yoltamal, which is made of baby corn and it has a sweet taste. Very yummy too.

When the revolution took place, and there was an American blockade of their products, we used corn a lot as staples, and Luis Enrique Mejia wrote a song about corn. It basically said that we're "Hijos del maiz", which was the main staples amongst indigenous people in our countries. These are the lyrics:

I forgot to tell you guys that tamales are eaten with PAN FRANCES, para sentirlos mas ricos; ademas, caen muy bien con cafecito. Never eat a tamal with tortillas. If you guys eat corn tamales don't forget to spread sour cream on them, ummmm, yummy!.

COnfu, a tamal is basically corn dough mixed some times with oil or pork fat (in the old days), and several spices, a piece of chicken, potato, olive and sometimes raisins( for sweet tamales) are inbedded into this dough; which is wrapped around with piece of a banana tree leaf.

There are several kinds of tamales, the most commonly sold in Toronto are chicken tamales, elote ( grounded corn), and sometimes pisket ( I have no idea what pisket means ) but they have re fried beans inside and look greenish in color with a particular taste from the cooking process. BAckhome there are several more kinds of tamales including sweet ones that kind of suck cause they taste more like a dessert.

If you ever have a chance to eat any kind of tamal, don't forget to remove the covering, leaves usually don't taste good. I've seen people eating them without removing the leaf, jajaja.

No all of it is not just America. There is North America which is one, and there Is South America which is the other. There are seven Continents in total, and north and south america are considered seperate. Yes it's all america, but it is divided into North and South America. Central America is part of North America. Get it.

Yup this is true. I heard that we are not officially considered a continent, because we are to small to be one. About Belize it was a part of a British Colony, which they called British Honduras, but this was after they took it away from Guatemala. Belize was originally a part of Guatemala, later it went to the British, and then it became indipendent.

No look it up then, because from what I have read in History books these three countries have or had some sort of alliance. Belize isn't considered part of Central America Officially. Panama is part of Central america, but it wasn't always. I think that it officially became part of Central America not to long ago, but this is a fact.

Also, isn't Panama sometimes not considered Central America. From what I remember in school, sometimes they said it was and sometimes it wasn't. I think Belize is, though. But don't quote me on either piece of information. Geography wasn't my forté in school.

Actually Mexico isn't part of Central America. Mexico is part of North America. Central America consists of the following countries. Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Now Belize I'm not sure, but it use to be part of Guatemala before, but technically the only countries that belong to Central America officially are the first six that I mentioned. I also believe that three of these countries have some sort of agreement with each other or something like that, but they call themselves the three brothers, which consist of Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Just thought that you would like to know that.

And yes I know this for a fact.
