I STILL REMEMBER LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY ........... I REMEMBER THE NEWS HOLY CRAP EVERYBODY WAS LIKE WHY .......... WHY ?????????
I wasn't even aware of who the Beatles were when John Lennon was killed. I had heard their music, of course, but I was living in Mexico and rarely, rarely watched t.v. It was that December of 1980 though when we moved to the U.S. but probably until two years later did I ever pay attention to the news and became aware of who they were and what had happened to John Lennon.
It wasn't until I was in my twenties that I really started liking their music.
Fans Remember His Words, Music and Deeds on the 25th Anniversary of His Death
NEW YORK Dec 8, 2005 — As they have done for 25 years, fans will converge in Central Park just outside the Dakota apartment building today to remember the words, music and deeds of John Lennon.
The music icon was gunned down by a deranged fan just steps from his home on the night of December 8th, 1980.
Although there is no official program for today's memorial, most of those paying tribute usually gather in the evening in Strawberry Fields, where they sing Lennon's songs and reminisce about his legacy.
A moment of silence is held at 10:50 p.m., the time he was shot, and again at 11:15 p.m., the time he is believed to have died.
Despite some protests from fans, city officials plan to close the park at 1 a.m., as they have for several years.
