I only speak spanish to my childrens. at the day care they spoke french and they listen to TV in english. Entre mas temparano se les ensene los idiomas mas facil es para ellos el aprenderlos.
I think that with Dora being so famous even little kids from other backgorunds are learning the language. Even one guy at the work place new words like abuela cause his little boy repite them at home, hahaha!, that's funny.
I don't have children but I will still respond....got enough nieces and nephews to be acquainted with the topic....LMAO.... I think parents should speak spanish to their kids from a very young age, in fact spanish should be the first language they should learn if they want them to speak it. After kids start to go to school is going to be very hard for them to learn it, even to actually like Spanish. I have nieces and nephews that don't want to have anything to do with the spanish language and I think that's a pity. But that's because the parents haven't taught them to be more appreciative of their roots.
I agree with you!
I also think that by speaking to our children in spanish we are also teaching them about our culture and where we came from. It is important to keep our culture alive specially when we are soooo far away.

I AGREE WITH AFRO 100%, I ALSO DON'T HAVE KIDS YET, BUT I TALK 2 MIS PRIMOS ALL THE TIME IN SPANISH, THEY HAVE BORN HERE, SUS PADRES TAKE THEM 2 EL SALVADOR @LIST ONCE EVERY 2 YEARS, THEY DON'T SPEACK FLUENT BUT THEY DO UNDERSTAND... SO WHEN I TELL THEM YA DEJA DE MOLESTAR QUE SI NO PARAS NO TE LLEVO AL CINE, THEY GET IT LoL
I'm a horrible mother!!! My kids understand Spanish but don't speak it very well. The reason I never spoke to them in Spanish is because I don't feel confident enough in my Spanish speaking abilities. (It's really sad, I clam up like a turtle when people start talking to me in Spanish) *hangs head in shame* My parents and grandparents spoke to me in Spanish and that's the main reason I know it. I grew up in Scarborough, where everyone was either white or black so Spanish was only spoken at home. To offset this horrible trend I've set in my kids, they are now enrolled in Spanish School/Classes. They're learning but I would love for them to learn more... *sigh* Ok, go ahead and yell at me..
