I'm PROUD of BOTH of my heritages and cultures. Being a proud Canadian does not need to take away from being a proud Ecuadorian or Somalian or whatever... I think people have a hard time distinguishing that. Luna, do you keep 100% of your nicaraguan heritage? Are you involved in anything Nicaraguan? I ask only because I came here as a teenager, but I still say I go "back home". I am a canadian citizen and looooove politics, both Nicaraguan and Canadian, but I do still feel very, very close to my nica heritage. Also, the fact that Canada actually promotes multiculturalism and keeping our roots helps to maintain our heritage strong, but I think it also affects so-called "canadian pride". That's where Canada and U.S. differ: U.S. hammers american patriotism amongst its citizens and pretty much forces assimilation (which I think in turns creates problems of identity), whereas Canada is totally the opposite and yet people seem to get along better here and we still maintain a certain affinity to the political process. What I'm saying is that I like the Canadian way of doing things better...
*sigh* unfortunately not.... when I was younger I was "forced" to be involved in many things Nica but now that I'm older I find that life has gotten in the way (and regret it every day) *ducks*
I came here when I was only 16 months old. The heritage and culture that I know and have was given to me by my parents and grandparents. I'm sure if and when I go back to Nicaragua I'll feel like a complete foreigner and to be completely honest with you, I feel it now. I'm the staple child for the "Canadian Way of Living", I work a 9-5 job, have 2 kids and am 100% a soccer mom. If it wasn't for my family that still keeps me grounded in my roots, I think I would have completely lost my Nicaraguense identity.
the US, initially, LOL, after that.. we'll see. paris maybe?? peru?? belgium? spain? who knows.
anyway, i don't feel particularly attached to one place.. as a kid i moved around a lot and i feel comfortable within a few cultures.. one of the reasons that i went to university was not be tied down to a particular country and not have any problems getting work visas in most places and be able to say, so long canada, if i want to...

I have never looked, I think for that I need a few years of experience and I'm working on that. Plus I'm waiting for my mom to actually move back home so that I can be free to go anywhere I want. It's not easy to be the youngest only single child.

Well if there are many places that are better than here then you should not have that hard of a time!!
@Miguel......what is the destination?

@ MIGUEL I feel the exact same way..... Also....I would love to do the 6 months here thing.....and 6 months "out in the sun"
Just wait until you become a senior citizen and then you can do the Miami thing (or the Costa Rica thing)... Not to worry... 65 is just around the corner...

i'm thinking of retiring in Ecuador but i'll probably be screwed over healthwise b/c the healthcare system is better here, no?
oh hell yeah!! i seen some of the most inhumane hospitals down there..thats one thing i missed when i was living there was the health care we have here..this was 6 years ago tho , things changed from what i heard from family and friends back home.
I like that idea of retiring in Ecuador, my uncles and aunts are in the process of doing that, just as long as you have a good amount of income coming in , then your set

If Canada was a hot country......all the Americans would move here.....and our "idiot ratings" would rise.... (not all Americans are dumb.....but c'mon now)

I totally agree with you Luna! I was born here but I am VERY Chilena in many ways. My parents raised me the South American way but I am VERY proud to be Canadian! I love this country and all it has to offer. I get into arguments with friends over this all the time.....it's like if you hate it that much then why not leave!!
