No problem to your question in the Dominican Republic the old school Merengue lovers are trying to bring ity back to where it used to be because it became a joke with a lot of artists that were using it to say things that had no meaning and it lost a lot of respect. There was a contest for Merengue composers and the Merengue called leņa moja won the contest he got $500,000 for the win.
They are encouraging the Merengue with nice lyrics and music it is sort of a softer and danceable style of Merengue. A cd with the top 11 songs will be coming out soon.
As far as myself I was invited to go by a TV producer that I am friends with and we are working still on my project which has been taking me longer than I thought but that is the way it goes sometimes. Only God will know what happens.
Last night I was delighted to have attended the Dominican Republic National Theatre in Santo Domingo for the gala celebration and closing ceremonies of the magnificent promotional project called "QUE VIVA EL MERENGUE"
This incredible event was an invitation only event in which they were 850 merengues auditioned from the different composers in the DR and the united states as well as other Dominican composers abroad.
The closing show was held by the Queen of Merengue Milly Quezada. The top musicians and personalities of Dominican society as well as politicians attended the event and I was glad to have been invited to such.
It was nice to see the effort being made in the Dominican Republic at all levels to bring back the Merengue that was lost in the last few years the Merengue that is enriched not only musically but also in itīs lyrics. It definetely made me proud to be Dominican and to have been present to see such a wonderful production.
My congratulations to the TV spokeperson JATNA TAVARES for coming out with such a wonderful project as she has been named by the president as the MADRINA OFICIAL DEL MERENGUE and November 26 has been chosen as the national day of Merengue y "QUE VIVA EL MERENGUE". There is no doubt that the Dominican society is becoming more and more involved in the upper push for all Doinican artists as well as the assistance to the foreing artists.
My next stop will be the JUAN LUIS GUERRA concert that will be held December 17 at the Estadio Olimpico de Santo Domingo and for which I have already obtained my tickets in the VIP section since I am taking my mom with me. This is the same concert I saw at the Madison Square Garden a while ago.
