What will happen to Venezuela couldn't care less what to Chavez per say, is very predictable: the entire country will deteriorate and crumble. Chavezs intentions might be good but he is defying gravity (the USA). The Venezuelan people will find it hard to live with dignity and talk about sovereignty when they lack toilet paper to wipe their ass with.
Chile, i'll give you my opinion in general on politics.
It's all about corruption, it doesn't matter what politician or government you're talking about, they are all the same. Some may have the advantage of sounding more convincing, more capable of keeping the promises they make to the people.
Otherwise it's all the same, they all tell you that your vote, (a right we all have---which is just an illusion that little ol' us can actually make a difference) is your voice, your way of being heard, getting things we need done, that it's part of a democracy. All they do is make promises to us, telling us we will get what we need most, being education, more/better health care, more public services.---they smartly feed our HOPES. and we buy it.
Hearing what we need to hear, we vote blindly, thinking that 'our voice' will get things done. Once they have what they need, they throw everything in our face, giving us excuses that it can't be done because of this or that, we need more money and other loads of BS.
If we did have equality, why are they richer than us? why is there so much poverty or crime? Democratic, commmunist, leftist...i don't care what kind of government it is, they all give us the same thing...NOTHING!

To label Chavez as simply a communist is misleading and inaccurate. He is reimbursing the owners of the farms that have been nationalized and distributed the land to the poor. I don't recall Castro compensating anyone.
Don't believe everything the US media outlets tell you. Their information goes through a prism of their own self interests. They only tell part of the story.
Reform is needed in Venezuela. It is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of natural resources but they have nothing to show for it. Too many years of exploitation, not just by the U.S. and other western countries, but by the elite Venezuelan themselves. Chevez is trying to level the field a little. If only other countries like the US don't get in their way he might have chance. However history proves (ie Allende) he has difficult road ahead of him.
He is certainaly a populist (maybe even in the molde of a Peron)
Seeing the world as either communist or capitalist is too simple an idea for contemporary times
