It is definitively the duty of everyone to remember in order to prevent those terrible things to happen again. But it looks like we are not too good at it. Look how many wars and special civil wars the world went trough since then ?

I have no family member that fought trough the war but they survived it.

My grandparents, on my mother side ran off Germany when the war begins with my mother and her brothers and sister. They hide them in a catholic, kind of “internado” in the mountain. They were very lucky. When the war was over, and they went back for their kids, my mom did not recognize them and was afraid to go, she was so little.

As for my dad, they left Italy and hide in the mountain of south of France but his was betrayed by one of his cousin and sent to forced work camp. It is something he did like to talk about. That was a very sad part of his life.

The results is that our family is now spread apart around the world as many other people and all I know is that my parents always teaches me never to forget. The people that leaved these horrible times are mostly gone now. But it is very important NOT TO FORGET and I am very happy when I see, here, lots of young people showing their respect by wearing the poppy flower pin. I thing the message is getting transmitted.

I remember sitting with him for hours listening to his stories. Kinda interesting how it was to be "on the other side". He would tell me that at that time during World War II that all the propaganda and training that the Nazi officials would drill in their heads made them believe they were all putting their lives on the line for a great cause. He was a gunner in the nazi air force. They were shot down and kept prisoner in South Africa by the British Army stationed there. After the war ended, many of them were too ashamed to go back to Germany as failures so alot of them from his camp went to Mexico to live. That's where he met my aunt.I find that an amazing story so I thought I'd share it with my foro peeps. My uncle is an actual US Corp Marine at Camp Pendelton just out side of San Diego California. Hes been to the first gulf war also did help out or spend time in Hiroshima and has been shipped all over the world! He was in El Salvador at the time when the civil war was ending and thats how he met and married my aunt. He has told me some amazing stories that are unbelievable. However he doesnt want this for his kids he would rather seem them doing better things with there life but growing up on a military base they kinda pick up on the whole Patricoticness of the country. Thank god he retires in december hes served all his time and walks away with all his limbs and most improtant his life!!!

I had a brother who died in the Nicaraguan war. He was 19 years old and despite the military draft, because he was sick he didn't have to go, but he volunteered to fight for what he thought was a worthy cause and because my sister was also in the mountains teaching peasants how to read and write. When he died he was a month shy of being released from the army. Just like him, many of my school mates died in that war. Those are the memories I have from high school back home, all the kids who died. What pi$$es me off is that most of the so-called leaders who instilled all that crap in these kids' heads are alive and doing very, very well. Their kids are safe and rich, have families and are still fighting to get back the power they lost through elections.

It's too bad that we only think about 11/11 once a year, or consider it's importance more in this month only.

My "Nonno" would tell me many stories about the war, too many to remember now. But I remember him and my grandmother telling me about "living in war" and how he would have to go away for days and her take care of their 5 children with no food and living pretty much in ruins. Funny how now we Bitch if our microwave ain't microwaving
