Nicaraguan Emergency: Food Shortage

Miskito Indigenous in Nicaragua's Caribbean Coast are in the midst of a famine.

  • A plague of rats and Hurricane Beta destroyed their crops. Therefore, northern Nicaragua was declared a natural disaster region.
  • 40% of the population is suffering from chronic malnutrition, 20% acute malnutrition.
  • Constant flooding and subsequent rat invasion caused communities to lose up 80% of the total crops.
  • The affected region is the largest and poorest municipality in the country. It's only accessible through Coco River, the longest and most dangerous river in Central America.
  • Collected funds will target approx. 23,000 to 40,000 people in 14 indigenous communities.
  • Our goal: Help supply food and medicine immediately for them.

FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES.
Please join us on these events to support this very worthy cause while having a great time.

Synopsis: The story of this family is just one of the many that took place during the war in Nicaragua. It's the story of a family that was torn apart by a war, which split up the brothers and placed them on opposite sides. The Rivera family shows how division, religious manipulation, male chauvinism and poverty are part of what the war left behind in Nicaragua.
