I loved Life of Pi... really good book. Fine Balance is on my To Read list. I also highly recommend The Red Tent. I think that one's a must for all women. Seriously, girls, read that one. Then we'll learn to bond with each other. Hey, did you know that Memoirs of a Geisha, the movie, is coming out soon? I'm so looking forward to that. I hope they got the essence of the book. The preview looks good, hopefully they didn't ruin it.

I read Memoirs... amazing book! Loved it.

Hollywood has a thing for turning great books into mediocre low budget movies.  Take Angelas Ashes for one... great book... horrible movie. I wanted to ask for my money back, it was that horendous.

Life of Pi - by Yann MartelIs about a boy who is lost at sea with only a hyena, monkey, zebra and a tiger as his travelling companions.  It shows how the little boy deals with the trauma of loosing his family to the ship wreck, how he interacts with the animals on the boat and what he does to survive.  Its rich with symbolism and plot twists as well.  I dont really like Canadian authors too much, but this book is worth it... very good book. And short too.

I would recommend the following two:

A fine balance - by Rohinton Mistry
It deals a lot with social and political issues surrounding India during the '70's.  It shows how everyone is interwined with each other and certain actions or events trigger a series of subsequent events.  It really good.. I highly recommend it. Its a long read, but its so worth it. Lots of twists and unexpected outcomes.

100 Years of Solitude is great.  But I think most Garcia Marquez books are.  They're very dark, abstract but they keep u interested.  I personally like Dr. Phil's books as well as anything by Maya Angelou.

I just finished reading El Coronel no tiene quien le escriba last night, and at the end I was like "WFT?!" I swear to you, it was like one of Daeveed's posts, the ones that don't make any sense. The book was good, but I ALWAYS need closure in my stories!

2 BEST SELLERS I RECCOMEND ARE:

1. THE CELESTINE PROPHECY - James Redfield

Chica Wow, as Tv Buff and I wrote in a previous thread, I recommend you Demian by Herman Hesse, Shiddharta or El lobo Estepario from the same author. I don't like science fiction either, but there are exceptions.

Saludos.

Do you have any suggestions of a good book or author that will keep me interested?  I don't like Science Fiction.  Anything else I would give it a try. Thanks Hey chica wow, i would suggest 100 hundred years of solitude, it's such a great book, if you're into the descriptive/narrative style, this is it  or you can always read cheese novels I agree!!! I read this book last summer.......It's so good. I can get a bit confusing......but that's actually part of the point of the book......but please read it in spanish. Nothing better than reading a book in it's original language..... my vote for " Cien An~os de Soledad"

yes!! i forgot that, you must read it in spanish, i've read it in both english an spanish, it's better en nuestra lengua
