I think some have taken 'pet peeve' as a justification for murder

It's no biggie... really!

Spaniard is the noun, spanish the adjective. Spanish is also the language.

Sometimes, the noun and adjective match. Others, they don't. For example:

spaniard/spanish, briton/british, swede/swedish, dane/danish (hmmmm... danish....), etc.

chilean/chilean, guatemalan/guatemalan, argentinean/argentinean, brazilian/brazilian, etc.

Whereas 250 years ago, a bonaerense could call himself 'spanish', today, he is merely argentinean .

He is also hispanic, and speaks spanish. But isn't 'spanish'.

Okay, Gitana, maybe you can be my interpreter. Your desk is right across from Preciosa's, right? Accents are the way people enunciate words, in any language. So the clucking of African dialects is an accent. Peruvian is an accent. Canadian is an accent. Unless you don't speak-- ergo being mute-- then you DON'T have an accent. You have an accent. I have an accent. Preciosa must certainly have an accent. In layman's terms, everyone speaks = have an accent.
