Any composition I write is for the purpose of inspiring someone with positive topics. I can't find a better subject then love. If the majority of songs all talk about love and people are losing interest in it, it's because they don't really know or haven't experienced love. I think music is a language that has broken barriers time and time again. Someone who has that obligation to express their views though song should also take it as a responsibility. People WILL hear your music and YOU set the example.
I think music and what we see in videos and movies have a HUGE impact on what we see going on in Jane and Finch and the world in general. A huge blame goes to the Government as well. They should set up programs and have places for the young generation to nuture themselves. especially in the trouble proned neighbourhoods. Build playgrounds...Have MORE community centres with endless activities. PARENTS should be more commmunicative to their children as well. So many parent unfortunately have to be working their a$$es off and the kids find other means of role models. What do they do? Learn what they think of dignity through friends at school. Or just come home to watch Music Videos all day and listen to half of the artists talking about settling things like pussies with a gun. Talk to any gang member and they would tell you the reason for them to be in a gang is because of the protection and sense of "belonging" they feel. If they can't find it somewhere else, obviously we have situation like Toronto is in now.
I would never brag of living in the area I live in now. It's horrible. The only thing that's kept my head on straight is a good family. Every night there's drug deals right outside my window. 2 people have died this summer alone from this neighbouhood. We've had at least a dozen shootings. My neighbour's door STILL has a bullet lodged in it. It sucks because alot of my family are too scared to visit us only until winter comes. I still don't see how people can come up with songs praising that shyt. We used to have a playground behind my house but it got defaced and they tore it down. Half of the teens living here don't work and spend their days doing yerba and selling it. Life nowadays is about easy money. Nobody wants to really work anymore like our parents used to work so hard. I can go on forever but this is a delicate topic. My family here wants to move out but unfortunately we're no executives so we have to "thug it out" in the meantime.
Anyway, Jane and Finch is a beautiful community if you look pass all these shootings. I spent all my high school days in that area. It sucks that it's going through all this stuff as well as other communities in Toronto.

i think they have to rely on the joven talento latino to show them they don't need violence to be notice. good example is the Fito Blanko guy, he is on tv radio in usa and here and so far he never been in the news for been in trouble.
also the media have to pay attencion to this "good latin examples", good example is the interview this month on the news paper Orgullo Hispano.
it doesn't mater if is salsa rock or else we have to put the good guys on the NEWS.
I think FLAKO is from the area (jane / finch) lets hope he follow the example of Fito about not using violence to get notice and lets hope the MEDIA pay attention.

I actually heard on the news that they want to implement a Curfew on our young teens from 18 under or 16 under to keep them off the streets they have many implemented in the US and it seems to be working. Since most of the drug runners are young youth that drug dealers use because they are protected under the young offenders act.
Do you guys agree with this curfew?? Would we be infridging on the rights of our youth to enjoy a sociable life??

I think that latino families who live in this area should take their children out of it. I live very close to the area and I can see that even if kids don't want trouble, trouble comes to them. There are so many thugs in the area, they just can't stand to see other people living a normal life. When some thugs see a nice kid/girl they look for an excuse to start a figth. Even caribean girls start figths for no reason. I've seen a jamaican man punching a polish man for no reason, and I saw in (jane and Lawrence) a group at least 10 B girls punching a couple of latinas high schoolers in front of their mom. When I walk on the side walk, thughs start walking in front of me looking for a figth since they have weapons with them, if they were alone or without weapons they wouldn't do that. I have to think I'm in the jungle dealing with creatures and move to let them pass, the same way I would let a poisonous snake keep it's travelling. All We can do is: avoid being part of this violence by using our intelligence and not fall into their ignorant world.
Otherwise, Jane and Finch is a good area, most people are workers and want to live in peace, I stay here cause I have no kids and nobody bothers me, it helps that I live in a house in a very quiet area.
For as long as i have been in this country (22 yrs) they have done nada!! and thats the way it will be the police station is practically at jane and finch but if u live there and call the cops it takes them 10-15mins to get there!
All one can do is raise awarness to the youth but they have done rallys community this and that but nada so basically there is no hope for jane n finch! Im sorry but like ppl say its not an area that toronto cares to invest money in! Look at Regent park samething but now there tearing it down and building different projects but thats only because some rich person took interest in the area

But its ppl that have expereneced violence frist hand that can raise awareness but they are too busy set in there old ways!
If you look at where the hot spots or the problem areas are, you'll realize it isn't anywhere near the posh areas. Try shooting someone in yorkville or rosedale. They'd clean that up in no time. But because these are areas where alot of government housing is, they look at it as the criminals cleaning up criminals.. Kinda works though.....I only have pity for the innocent ones and the families. Those who choose to step down to a gangsta way of life should face what comes with that lifestyle...possible death....So be it.

Drastic and violent behaviour can only be stopped with drastic assertive enforcement and high police presence in the problem areas. This is not what the Toronto police really cares about with our community they don't give a Damn about our people it is all politics guys.
If these problems were taking place in a more privileged area things would be different. Believe me I know exactly what is going on and for them we are still a small community that has no importance on the society in which we live in. (At least not for the moment)
