If you quit your job you can apply for EI If you get layed off or fired than you can get one week per year pay that youve been at the company, plus EI and vacation pay etc. You should check with the labor board, but this is the info I got when I wanted to leave my old job which I hated. Hope this helps.

Colombiana, if you quit your JOB for no reason, you are not eligible to collect E.I. however if you quit beacuse of change in department, sexual harrassment etc you are able to collect,
I do payroll for the compnay that I work for and normally if asked we state that the reason you are leaving is shortage of work, I guess that depends on your employer and the grounds you are leaving

Can u be eligible for E.I. benefits when you quit your job? Can u be eligible if u get fired? What are the grounds for both? If anyone has any info i'd appreciate it. I've called and gone on their websites but i dont have time to decipher all that government jargon. Thanks guys.
YES. I actully went through both situations. I once got let go and the other time i quit. And on both situations i was able to receive E.I. The first time i was let go on suspiscions that i was stealing (I was 18 in '98) just because someone got caught stealing. The next time i recieved E.I. i had quit my job (2002) because they changed me to a different department that i had no experience in. They were downsizing the company and wanted to put me in a different department.
It depends on your situation. They will investigate in order to see if you qualify for E.I. Benefits.

And when i called they gave me the impression that yes, depending on the grounds, they would have to investigate. Im just asking around to see if anyone has actually gone through any of these and how things went. I think you CAN get E.I.: if you do get fired… but like you said, it MAY depend on the grounds of being fired… How about asking to GET LAID off – I heard some people have asked their bosses and they’ve done it for them so they can collect EI. L-Gig, you couldn't have describe it better, even if i would have sent u the picture myself. Thanks, i needed a good laugh.

I DON’T THINK you can be eligible for E.I. I you quit… in 1998 I –overstayed my vacation period – didn’t even quit, but it was CONSIDERED as if I quit… and nope, didn’t work for me.
