TORONTO (CP) -- The player touted as the "It Girl" on tournament posters has dropped out of the Rogers Cup.
Russian superstar Maria Sharapova withdrew from the $1.3 million US event Sunday due to a strained chest muscle.
Sharapova, who was not only the top seed in the event but also its top draw, had hoped she'd be well enough to play in Toronto but after receiving treatment over the weekend in Los Angeles, she was advised not to hit any balls until Wednesday or Thursday.
She is not coming to Toronto, damn I wanted to go and see her in the tournament...
