you all suck. It's very 1980's-1990's wake up dumbasses reggaeton rules the charts none of those bands here in T.O will go anywhere except their garages, basements or courtyard. Most of those band members are OLD MEN that their prime past a lonnngggg time ago and they still beleive their band is going to go far. Come on it's true they are OLD around their 40's! They should stay at home taking care of their families instead of embarrassing themselves playing gigs at some bars. YOU WILL NEVER GET NOTICED!!! REGGAETON RULES!
You are an ignorant , first educate yourself on the topic you are going to write about and then make your points with some basis. A person is born being a musician and dies being a musician , it has nothing to do with the age or the type of music one plays.

Cause everytime I hear him yelling his name, it sounds like "Daddy Yankee Joe"...or is he really TRYING to say "YO"....but is too much of a native jibaro to speak prober ebonics. Get real....you bunch of fukkin washed out kids are DYING to be black. that's what this whole hype around reggaeton is. Once someone bit off Jamaican beats and black hip hop beats and threw spanish lyrics on top of it, it's automatically SPANISH music??? NO NO.....you can keep that shizit. Reggaeton is recognized as spanish music, but the blacks are laughing at us saying "Them spics wanna be like us" REAL latin people are the ones who vibe out their culture and NEVER EVER forget their roots. So next time you go and wear your akademiks, your air force ones and your rocawear shirts, then walk around with a limp talking all "yo this........yo that", look at your parents and tell me who the real spics are.
Thats the typical mentality you find in toronto only . I have travelled to the states and things are different there. You have a large amount of urban latinos, of whom make up a large audience that supports reggaeton . Thats why it does way better there then here. On top of that you have dumb closed minded people like this fool up here who i am quoting that are still on that "keep it real and latino kind of thing" jajaja hey correct me if im wrong but salsa from puerto rico or cuba has some african influence through out its music history (instruments drums etc..) right?. So please do us all a favour and keep your hating towards yourself. I have been listenting to spanish reggae/reggaeton before any of you knew about daddy yankee. Most of you dont even know the history behind it .
Those who are true musicians are the ones that keep an open mind to all walks of life when it comes to music. Hating on a specific genre of music just because you PERSONALLY don't like it, doesn't necesarily mean that it sucks all together! If you love one type of music and want it to stay that way forever, it'll eventually not survive. Music was meant to evolve. People come and go and they'll always bring new ideas to the table. Music has had a huge urban influence and that's exactly what Reggaeton is. C'mon, it's not the 90's. It's an expression of what has evolved with both Latino music and latino culture and ends up with what we have today. Latin rock is extraordinary music and there are many many talented musicians playing it. It will evolve as well. Not everybody will have the same idea therefore, someone will come along and keep Latino Rock on the map with something innovative. Same with the tropical scene (Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia) Someone will come along and make some noise...that's the way it is. People are rightfully entitled to love a certain kind of music. Whatever gives you goosebumps when you listen to it, IS your kind of music. BUT coming in with ignorant bashing does nothing BUT show how narrow a mind can be. Be it Latin Rock or Reggaeton, both are here and have made a huge impact on what the Latino culture is today.
C'mon guys, keep it clean. If it ain't your favorite flavour of ice cream, let others have it.
mad luv
Ricky

Im very glad that Reggaeton is finally making an impact in the international music industry. Well to start off, before it was called Reggaeton it was called Underground. It well suited its name because of its raw lyrics talking about sex, drugs, shootings, murder, and basically all the **** that was and still is going on in PR.
Early 90's From the influence of spanish reggae from Panama, from MC's like el General, Puerto Rico got its first taste of spanish reggae, and spawned artists like Vico C, Kid Power Posse, Wiso G, and many others. Take in mind that during this time, all this music was only available on tapes {No Cds} and was only available through independent music stores. The topics ranged from education, poverty, violence, etc.
Mid 90's When the music started becoming more popular amongst the PuertoRican youth, and caught the attention of the government, they tried to ban Underground and censor it lyrics. For a while during this time period, if the cops caught you listening to Underground, they would do 1 of 2 things. Take your tape and break it , or consfiscate it from you so they could enjoy at home for their pleasure. [They were supposed to consficate it and discard it but alot of cops in PR are super corrupt and they loved the Underground too.] Around this time was when Mixtapes like Playero38 were making an impact and sounding all around the barrios in cars and homes with songs like "Puerto Rico Puerto Rico todos quieren fumar, por eso marijuana yo voy a cultivar." it dont rhyme in english but here is what it says,"Puerto Rico Puerto Rico everyone wants to smoke thats why I am going to cultivate Marijuana." During this time was when the first Underground Cds began to appear and transition from tapes. As mentioned earlier ,Underground was extremely popular amongst young adults and youth alike. Dj's as myself, started taking up arms and sponsoring Underground parties. These parties were looked at as super raunchy and dangerous. Here is my personal description of my parties to see if you can put a picture to it. A community center filled with people from wall to wall , dark, [almost no lighting at all since I only had a couple of red lights, strobes and a smoke machine.] Everyone perreando, this is the dance they call el perreo which is basically ****ing with your clothes on, Weed smoke all in the air, and "everyone" dancing synchronized to the DemBow beat. Due to the censorship and all the bull**** the government was imposing over the Reggaeton artists, live parties was a way for everyone to vent and express themselves accordingly.
Late 90's Because of this, artist had to basically clean up their lyrics if they wanted their **** to play. This caused for a time period of watered down Underground. At the same time the artists, and producers where trying to find a way of getting around this so they started to take a more professional approach. This was around the time that Underground transitioned into Reggaeton. Reggaeton Cd's began to appear in Sam Goody's in PR malls, etc. The lyrics at this time were still clean, but the artist seemed to find a way of keeping it borderline to maintain the integrity of the true Underground. Later on I really dont know what political **** happend, but all of a sudden Reggaeton Music was not being censored at all :]
New Millenium
Reggaeton becomes noticed all around Latin America and becomes a strong music force to be reckoned with. With artists like Tego Calderon, Daddy Yankee, Ivy Queen, Don Omar, OG Black and Master Joe, the music was becoming more evolved and professional sounding therefore gaining the attention of all of us.
PS all the artist above have been around since the beginning of Underground in exception with Don Omar who I dont remember anything before 96
