Holly, that movie is about real facts. It's to bad it wasn't made in EL Salvador where some people don't know about it or don't want to know. I was almost recruited by the army several times, and I was only 13 to 15 years old. The recruting process was simple: they used to capture young guys and put them into the back of military trucks, then they would train you for a few weeks or months, and voila' : you suddenly were a soldier aways from your family and friends, and trained to killed them under orders if necessary. Well, I never let them catch me, I remember walking for many blocks pretending I had polio jajaja, those soldiers didn't even suspected I was pulling their legs. On another day my mother basically pull me from the truck and told them I was going to study in the Military School ( which was B.S) but they belived it.
I don't know about the country side in EL Salvador, but I've heard stories of both the army and Guerrilla recruiting young guys. Well, in Canada 13 years old are still kids; but ,overthere we are kids no more. I remember junior high school friends of mine that were into politics and several were shot by death squads at the tender age of 12 -14. Reality is sometimes weirder than fiction, rigth !?
I DID NOT SEE MUCH PERO MIRE LO SUFICIENTE, BUT 1 THING I NEVER FORGET IS WHEN SOME1 PUT A GUN 4 THE FIRTS TIME IN YOUR HEAD, I WAS JUST 5 AND THE DEATH SQUAD WAS LOOKING 4 MY UNCLES I WILL NOT GO IN DETAILS WHY BUT U GUYS CAN IMAGINE, ESTOS PENDEJOS TOCAN LA PUERTE THEY PUT A LITTLE KID 2 ASK 4 MY UNCLES SO WE WOULD OPEN THE DOOR 4 THEN CAUSE BACK IN EL SALVADOR LAS PUERTAS SON DE HIERRO AND 2 BREACK 2 DOWN IS REALLY HARD, LA COSA QUE ONCE THE DOOR WAS OPEN THEY PUT A GUN IN 2 MY MOM AND MY HEAD Y MI ABUELA Y MI TIA THAT SHE IS MENTALY CHALLENGE, BUT THEY DID NOT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THAT, ME INTERROGABAN DIDIENDOME QUE SI NO LES DESIA WERE MY UNCLES WERE ME HIBAN A MATAR YO LES DIJE QUE NO VIVIAN ALLI, PERO ALLI VIVIAN SOLO QUE HABIAN SALIDO MY MOM GOT SO MAD QUE LE QUITO Y LE TIRO LA PISTALA AL TIPO SHE WAS SO LUCKY QUE NO LE DISPARARON AND SHE TOLD THEM QUE SI NO ERAN HOMBRES QUE A UN NINO LE TENIAN QUE PONER UNA GUN PARA SACARLE LA VERDA AFTER THAT THEY LEFT NOSE SI SE SINTIERON MAL OR IT WAS GOD BUT ESTOY AQUI DE MILAGRO Y MI MAMA TAMBIEN..........
"Voces Inocentes" is a good movie, it does portray the situation the kids had to live at that time. It is true that as soon as they turned 12 they had to go to the military or join the guerrilla. One of my brothers was constantly recruited by the military but we "knew people" and my mom was able to get him out, thank god. Also the shootings between la guerrilla and los soldados were something that would happen all the time, coming out of your house and see dead bodies was common. I only saw it once in 89 when the guerrilla had an ofensiva, i used to go to a catholic school where the nuns used to hide guerrilleros, and take care of the wounded ones. I remember how we used to know where they were hidding. Those times were sad. But I think now it's more depressing to see how the people that before were "fighting" for the poor, are now just doing the same, taking advantage of their positions and enjoying corruption at its best. So 10 years of civil war and more than 10,000 people dead for NOTHING.

I saw the movie like 2 months ago.....very sad....when you see those kids...I don't really know how close it's to the reality but to see those kids on that situation is very sad.
what you saw is reality... or it was. not sure if the situation is still similar....but poverty and need makes you do what you normaly wouldn't. Even if it means letting the powerful take advantage of you.
