The latino youth in the US and The tdot will most likely feel the hiphop/reggaeton urban taste you know what i mean? since they closely relate . Rock en espanol naaaa, I dont see that blowing up here in the American world as much as i see reggaeton. I think rock en espanol does better in the rest of the latin world argentina mexico chile , oh yeah and Spain my cusins love that s** there
Jokerxv1, yeah, nobody had got a good point, like the one you just showed us. Rock en español is huge in the latin world, we understand it may not blow up here in the american world, and this is not because of reggaeton but because of English rock, it is huge all over the world, have you seen how many rock concerts Toronto does a year? Well people all over the world love rock music, they fill stadiums to see rock bands, and that is exactly what happends in the latin world, people there love rock music so much that they want it in their own language to feel a better connection with this kind of music, and they follow their spanish stars. So no..... I don't think rock music or spanish rock will die at least any time soon. Reggaeton music is relatively new, rock music has been around for many many decades and has proven a great success of survival. As long as there is rock in any language, spanish rock will be there and I think that if it wasn't for so many artists that a lot of rock musicians love and admire like "Bob Marley or The Police who at times were call (white reggae)", reggaeton music would not exist, knowing that reggae music and rock music have been good brothers in the history of music.
Now if you don't like rock music that is just your personal opinion but remember you are not alone in this world.

My point is that I don't think I need to listen to more music and I also know for a fact that Rancid was not even one of the first bands to start the whole melodic punk sound. That's my point. Okay

Green Day's first album Dookie was "the first" and then these other bands that are coming out today like Simple Plan, Blink 182 and Good Charlotte are mediocre copycats. Not even copycats they are not even copying it right. Even to this day Green Day continues to amaze me with the innovation of their music. Simple Plan and the rest of them their music is so repetitive. Simple Plan is a very good example of a repetitive band. First of all I wanna say that I don't want to be confrontational, and I am not trying to attack you (i say this cause sometimes my posts come off as an attack, but they're not) I really don't know what do you mean by Dookie being "the first". The first of what? If you mean Green Day's first, then you might be right, but if you mean it was the first album that started a whole new movement, I can't agree with you. I don't consider them to be a bad band, I just don't like their music. I'd rather listen to his brother's band (Rancid), which in my opinion were the mentors of Green day, and they for sure were one of the first bands to come up with the whole California Melodic Punk sort of music. Everything I've heard from Green Day I've heard before, that's why I don't consider them to be "the first" of anything. Maybe you should listen to some more music.
I listen to enough music thank you very much. Rancid was not the first to start the whole California Melodic Punk movement it was groups like Operation Ivy and Bad Religion. Also, please note punk rock music is my forte. Personally I perfer the NEW YORK punk sound like the kings themselves The Ramones, Johnny Thunder and The Heartbreakers, Richard Hell and The Voidoids. There were other bands from New York that influenced many Television, Blondie, Talking Heads and my favorite band at the Moment The Velvet Underground. The collaboration of Lou Reed, John Cale and Nico made the best music. It's out of this world.
Gardenias rocks!!!!!!

Maully, for your information I have listened to rock music in other languages. I do like French and German rock and I love Korean rock music. I'm not trying to downplay the language in general. It's just I can't really listen to Rock music en Espanol. It's just something that I feel. I haven't heard any rock music in Spanish that makes me say "Gee, that sounds pretty awesome". I'm sorry I just haven't. Maybe you can suggest a band? Now, Robert Smith from The Cure. Not only was he cool but music from The Cure was very innovative. I love Robert Smith.
I think it's hard to suggest a band, we all have different tastes, the kind of music I like, maybe is the music you don't like, I just don't see what's the problem with spanish if you like rock music in other different languages, is it the language ? or the way we spanish people make music? which shoulden't have anything to do with the language.
If you like The Cure for example I could suggest you to listen to Soda Stereo, a band from the 80's that was strongly influenced by The Cure. In my concept The Cure was the band that started all this movement but Soda Stereo's members were way better musicians than The Cure's, if you compare the nice guitar solos from robert smith with the solos from soda's guitar player, you'll see who could played the guitar better, also compare the drummers and the bass players, Soda is more complex in this aspect but Cure was the band with the great ideas that influenced so many.
Carlos Santana, can you tell a difference when his music is sang in English or Spanish ?
Do you think his music sounds better in English?
If you like Police, maybe you can listen to "Mana" from mexico or "Distrito Especial" from Colombia.
If you like Led Zeppeling maybe you can listen to Julio Iglesias Unplugged.......Just Kidding. Actually I don't know many heavy spanish bands, Maybe Daeeved or Mario can suggest some. Maybe you can listen to Kraken.... or Luzbel..... or perhaps Baron Rojo....
If you like Pink Floyd.... you can listen to Virus.....not that they bit them but they can sound alike...
Anyways if you don't like spanish rock no blame, we all have different tastes like I said but maybe you'll find something you'd like. I think we have great latin musicians, some times I come to english concerts and remember the great latin concerts I've been to. Wish I was there......
If you like Green Day (whom I consider it to be in the same bag with simple plan and all that crap, but it's fine) you should check: BBS Paranoicos Los Miserables Molotov Dos Minutos

I'm sorry I like my rock in English. Spanish rock to me seems very popish. I find rock music in Spanish seems too manufactured. In other words "Fake". It just doesn't seem right. Something is missing that I can't bare to listen to Rock en Espanol. I can't tolerate it. I'm also quite aware lately English rock music has become very poppy with idiotic bands like Simple Plan, All-American Rejects and Maroon Five. At the same time I can't say that’s true because we still have Green Day and other bands still remaining with the true rock essence like The Foo Fighters and our own Canadian band Sloan (which kick ass). The rest of the stuff out there is pretty much garbage.-- Edited by Ronette at 17:53, 2005-07-27
Maybe you're right Miel. Maybe I'm not giving rock en Espanol a chance. You mentioned a band called Molotov. The name sounds kind of interesting. Molotov I'll check into them. The name just seems to roll off the tongue.
